I never played it online or beat the game, but you are right that it's a game that feels very of it's time. Three very different ways to play, not much in the way of narrative, it's really about immersing yourself into what it's like to be these three very distinct creatures. Once multiplayer death match games or highly cinematic singleplayer became the big moneymakers it would become very difficult and costly to make such a "three in one" experience again. But there was a time when it was profitable to make, and all you can hope for now is that people tell it's story and tell it well. I think this video pulled that off

I was never really a fan of the game. But I got it for free at a LAN party, so I played it. I preferred the 2nd game. Which I also acquired the same way. Along with several others. 🎉LAN Parties🎁🎁

first game was atmospheric, scary and relied on immersing the player in the environment with eeries sounds, the second was an all out war, and the third ones was crap. just like the Alien movies, in that order
