KRS One was and always is the MC of lyrical edutainment. So many good tracks to choose from... lyrics to enlighten for those who wish to listen. I remember playing one of the hits from his first album a year or two after it released at a dance club when I was a teen DJ and getting into much trouble over some cusswords in it afterwards :).

@4:29 lil bro I was waiting to see your reaction when he started dropping the knowledge lol. Definitely check out KRS-One's Why Is That You have to imagine our gen (X) being between 8-23 when this came out and the impact it had. this is why they pushed NWA, gangsta music and eventually Diddy to make the people dance instead of feeding their minds

The lack of history and enlightenment in hip hop lyrics that started to decline around the mid 1990s was no accident. I would say the peak was around 1991-1993. Then the 1994 Source awards was a pivotal moment of unnecessary division amongst the community coupled with increasingly vapid lyrics that was promoted and profited from. Then we had a generation of rappers who grew up with that message as the norm. Again, it’s no accident what kind of music and which lyrics get rewarded with fame and fortune.
