where I live on the missouri river, in the middle of the US, these boats are the cat daddy. people usually start with a sea ray then jump up to a colbalt. they are used for water sking, docking on a sand bar, or just slowly floating down the river geting a tan with a beer & listening to the cotton wood leaves in the wind.

I'm glad you posted this comment, this boat makes more sense to me now 👍🇬🇧

@@cookiemonster2299 my boss owned one, and he had a house with a dock on the river, so he did'nt really need to sleep in the boat. just take it out for a cruise on a nice day or night...the sand bar thing is about a few boats meeting and having a lil party, maybe a camp fire and throw a line or two in the water for a catfish. you need good speed cause of the flow of the river.

I owned a Cobalt I bought it new in 1985, and it was the best boat I have ever owned. Everything about it was extraordinarily high quality. I had it for 5 years and never had a single problem, not even a rattle or squeak. In those days there was a lot of teak and the famous stainless steel steering wheel, which they claimed would not get hot in the sun, and it never did. In 90+ temperatures and direct sun, it was always cool to the touch. I am not one to reminisce, but I truly miss that boat!

As the classical musical group 'Loverboy' once sang - "Everybody's working for the weekend. Everybody wants to have a boat..." or words not too dissimilar. Nick you've sussed out yet another of boatings hidden jewels. The smile per British Pound maths works out great. From a single person's show boat, to a young couple, a starter family or a 75 year old (like me) who just wants to go boating without all the fuss bigger boats offer up before you even get to leave dry land. I recall back in the 1970s (yeah, I'm old) here in the US, Cobalt had a reputation for building a high-quality, high-cost boat, and I used to lust after them, although they were far out of my price range. I see that hasn't changed.

I was amazed that the previous Cranchi Z35 has a Seakeeper and a day and minus 5' you find the Cobalt R30 with the smallest Seakeeper in the known universe, brilliant Nick! But as a choice for a SB2 replacement the Cranchi Z35 seems to be in the top three as a contender for a SB2/3 forever home. Back to the Cobalt R30, I respect quality work and to see a company put high quality stainless steel hardware throughout should give any buyer solid purchasing confidence. Not to mention the other touches. Have a great week.

Mega money for a glorified speed boat. For quarter of a million I'd want a bit more...some of the used boats you have featured Nick, for the same money have cabins shower etc. I'm not a speed boat type of person though. Loved the clever storage, loo, clever seating. As someone else commented regarding hydraulic swim platforms.....if they fail at sea is the boat still useable? Nice boat though!

Something I found very interesting about boating on a large lake in the U.S, with over 400 Cobalts on the lake. Not a single one has a bow thruster. We indeed own a Cobalt 276. There was no option for a bow thruster when ordered new. Not even their largest R35 does not offer the option of a bow thruster. What do you believe is the cause for Cobalt not offering bow thrusters on their boats? Thanks, Oscar.

Nice boat and a lot of thought, but I think for the price I’d look at something more useable for our weather and coastline. Day boats are massive in the states where they have the weather and also lakes but here I don’t think they work quite as well…
