They had them in some kind of enclosure and they were trying to catch them in a sein net- but they would jump over the top of the net every time they closed in on them. This guy is catching real-life Lochness monsters. I used to go fishing in Iguazu Falls on the Argentina side where they have canals and catch Pirarucu, I think it's the same fish. I have family in Argentina and go to Iguazu falls to vacation. They have huge catfish too. The best part is the motels are right on the falls and the spring water goes right into the room hot tubs. You can also fish off the balcony. You have to watch out for the ring-tailed lemurs, they try and steal your pole, bait, or whole tackle box, lol.

If you are respectful to the fish, it can go back, grow larger and let someone else enjoy the thrill of catching him. Keeping every fish caught is not sustainable. Catch and release is the only way to maintain the sport.

Arapaimas are my favouirite fish since a kid when I first saw them on a Series of VHS I had about the amazon rainforest back in the 90s, absolute monsters I hear the largest was 10 ft but they can easily average 6.5 ft which is freaking insane, on those vids I had they actually showed them jumping, they are so amazing

yep, in brazil we call it "pirarucu". he's big but he gets easily tired, there's a big amount of arapaima around here(not always this big, but pretty big usually)
