​@@slapnut892 is right. The quality is terrible my last hp had 3 motherboard fail, the fans would not spin up until 90c and no fan control software would work, and the cooling solution was way too small and ran very hot and thermal throttled well below base clock.

@@diogo_c I have the 2500u(cm-0105au same chassis bar the usb c daughter board and the zen+ cpu update(similar enough to share bios updates(different actual bios though presumably for cpu suppport files(agesa etc))) variant of this laptop and can confirm a few things.There is a 70c throttling cap that can be fixed with ryzen controller,Uncapped temps settle at 87c (also the temp the fans ramp up to max, notebook fan control does have a working profile for it but you need to tweak it further) provided you dont increase temps beyond the 15w tdp its configured for.Most of the cost cutting comes from the chassis' build quality where the top cover is really flimsy once disassembled and the keyboard is riveted in place thus non replaceable.If you were to buy one i suggest get one with a harddrive so you get the bracket and cable for one thats removed on ssd only models.Also HWinfo suggest a maximum of 32gb for the model so that may work.

Paid around 800 for a Dell g15 gaming laptop early 2018 that had a 1050ti and I'd say this little hp is amazingly close to it for a while lot less it's definitely not gonna be on its level with any upgrades but not bad.

@@sliderlu The GPU is a mere die shrink. They are the same architecture, with the same number of CU's as the 2000 and 3000 series laptop APU's. So there will be a performance increase and they'll perform better than anything Intel has to offer but it won't be a huge improvement and Intel is closing in in the GPU department.

build quality of this laptop is pretty good. a bit lighter than the hp x360 too. bought mine yesterday from walmart. including tax it came to $266. has a built in fan too that does the job pretty well. ran final fantasy xiii at 1366x768 resolution and ran perfect without changing any settings

Resident Evil 2 remake is surprisingly scalable btw for integrated graphics. It gives you extremely granular graphics options, and it's also fairly efficient despite being a good looking game. I do use extreme tuning utility (you can force it not to check your cpu, and use it on basically any intel setup, giving you a range of mild overclock options) to slightly increase my intel iGPU amperage, but I don't think I need to generally. And of course, as always dual channel, max speed ram.

It looks very interesting for the price. Unfortunately HP consumer laptops are quite infamous for hinges breaking after a relatively short time, as they are screwed into small metal bushings being held in place by flimsy plastic, instead of having a metal sub-frame.

Go back to 2012 and my chunky PS3 could barely run Skyrim at 30 FPS (probably normal - low settings). Jump forward to today, and a tiny $250 laptop can run it at 60 FPS, High settings, no problem 😯 Results like this further convince me that APUs are the future for budget - midrange gaming.

You can disable shadows completely in gta v by tweaking Inis which should give 60 fps. Helped on my old r7 250

That's emmc memory. Not really an SSD. More like a flash drive. Any laptop with that must have cost less than $200 and the processor they pair with those are terrible as well. 32Gb is so small, it can't even fit windows 10 plus the updates. Your only option is use 10 without its updates (yikes) or put Linux on it. Since that machine is only capable of web browsing anyway, Linux shouldn't be too complicated to use. I'd suggest spending a little extra and get out of that tier of laptop.

I'm excited. Have one ordered and am waiting for it to be shipped. I needed a Windows 64-bit OS, running on 8GB of ram on DDR4 and not DDR3 that could fluctuate between 2.4 GHz and 5 GHz as where I live we don't have high speed internet and so are running on a hotspot box. I had to install a single booster for our phones and hotspot box, then the hotspot box has an attachment for it's own antenna which I did purchase and have that attached as well just to get a consistent speed of 1.5 mbps. Our router can fluctuate between 2.4 and 5 but we just don't have enough power and didn't want these newer laptops that are only support Wifi 5 nowadays. I need it for work and so will have a lot of programs installed on it. Not too mention I don't have a lot of money either. So this cheap price is good for what I was needing it for.

At 2:30 it appears to be fitted with a SATA m.2 SSD. That space to the left of the battery intrigued me. It looks about the size of a 2.5-inch drive and, just above his thumb I see HDD silk screened onto the PCB. I need to investigate this model more.

Nah the thing is with iGPUs, they share ram with the CPU. Which means you get a bottle neck. With dual channel, that's diminished a lot. So with integrated graphics gaming - always dual channel (two DDR sticks of the same speed, preferably as fast as your machine will take). This makes a good 20-40% difference in GPU performance.

@@MegaNosin 2x8 is probably going to be better, because it's being divided between cpu and ram, and that gives you a healthy amount for textures etc on the iGPU.

@@irisdogma8174 this integrated GPU reserves up to a max of 2gb of RAM. So with 8gb of total RAM you have 2gb dedicated to the GPU, and 6gb free for everything else.

@@Nixeen Which intergrated GPU does that? Modern intel GPUs don't reserve anything, they just use what's free, no limits. Certainly if that was the case, 8gb would be fine. But if it's anything like my igpu 16gb is better because 8gb for game/system is ideal, and that leaves more room for higher quality textures. 2gb isn't a lot for gpu memory these days.

I just recently purchased this laptop to replace the same model but with the Core i3-7100U. This laptop does game better. But viewport rendering performance in Blender's Eevee is very poor in comparison to the Intel HD 620 found in on the unit with the i3. That comes as a bit of a surprised to me considering the graphics difference in game titles. I went as far as to install AMD's own drivers direct and still no improvement. Also I swapped over my upgrades from the previous machine. So it now has 16gb 2400 RAM, and a 500gb WD Blue drive that doubled the effective SSD spead. So I am perplexed. While I like that I can play games on it, it isn't really meeting my needs for when I need it for my 3d work considering the basic intel machine trounces this in the viewport. Weird. And before you ask, I have a workstation for my actual professional work. I like having a small cheap low powered machine to carry around everywhere. Anyway, thank you ETA Prime for the review. I just wished it made sense considering.

Try GPU-Z to monitor workload, frequency, memory and temperature of the GPU. I'm not sure about AMD integrated GPUs but it works on Intel integrated. Also maybe report on temperature when performing tests.

Walmart themselves has superseded this model with a slightly upgraded one, with a Ryzen 3 3250U, vice the 3200U in the machine, and a silver deck and keyboard, rather than the black. In the age of Corona it retails for $299. If you have a BJs membership, the same $$ will net you essentially the same machine, but with a 1x8GB RAM and 256GB SSD. You can get one of these, built to order, from HP, with up to 16GB RAM and SSD plus rust based storage. It’s a phenomenal unit for the price, especially when you consider the RAM and SSD are upgradable. There’s even an internal slot in the chassis for a 2.5” SATA drive, though I’m sure HP omitted the required, proprietary $0.10 cable, given this machine ships with only an SSD.

After installing windows 10 on many laptops and PCs, I've noticed that its mostly only high usage in the beginning when it needs to update everything. Once thats done, i find that it has lower RAM and CPU usage than windows 7. Although maybe it could have been all the bloat on 7 before I wiped them to start fresh on 10. Also this CPU dedicates part of the RAM for the GPU. So with the starting 4gb, you only have 3.5gb usable. With 8gbs total, the GPU gets a max of 2gb dedicated, and you have 6gb free.

From a gaming perspective, 768p or 720p makes perfect sense for a relatively low powered laptop. Much easier to drive a 768p screen than 1080p or higher.

Exactly. Lcds really only look great at their native res up close. Being low powered, you'll play more games at lower reses. Now the old CRT days, I'd prefer whatever highest resolution.

It really makes sense to have a 768p screen with this GPU since most games are playable on 720 and if the display was a 1080p one, there'd be more aliasing if you were playing at 720p

pcsx2, ppsspp, dolphin all run great. playing ps2 games at 3-5x resolution and speed never drops below 90% on both latest nightly and older builds. even on battery saver the games run smooth

I bought a R5 3500U HP Pavilion 15 laptop in the beginning of august last year in replacement of my dead E5400 dual-core rig. No hardware nor software issues so far. You might think that $530-ish is overpriced for this laptop. But here in Colombia, this laptop for this price was literally and figuratively a steal. If I had ordered a laptop with similar or lesser specs from Amazon, Newegg or eBay, I would have needed to pay $600 or upwards.

You should test a HP EliteBook 844p because is was playing beamNG drive on there and that game you are supposed to play that on a computer with a graphics card and lots of ram I was playing it with 2gb of ram and it was laughing but actually not bad for a computer made in I think 2012 running a 32 bit processor but I upgraded it to 8 GB of ram and it runs that game really fluently. Nice video
