About the sparkly shoes... they are dance shoes made for ballroom dancing and therefore have to be light and flexible. I believe you if you say they're cheap-feeling, but tbh most ballroom shoes are. They are not made to last since you'll dance the sole down in a few weeks anyway, and them feeling wobbly/like they're breaking apart is most likely due to them being as flexible as they need to be. (Of course, highly professional dancers will have leather shoes and just replace them regularily, but hobby-dancers mostly use shoes like the ones in the viedeo)

So, chances are, the smell is formaldehyde. It's used to prevent bugs and bacteria during cargo transport, and in warehouses. It can smell kinda like piles of dead fish, maybe a bit like ammonia, what have you. If you need to get rid of the smell, best option is to hang in a ventilated area for about a month. lol Some items can sit in a bag full of baking soda for a bit, but you have to be careful with baking soda lest it eat away at the materials.

The black Mary Jane shoes are tap shoes. The thick heel is so you can attach the actual metal plate :) The silver low heels are dance heels too which is why they have the different buckle to make them easier to take on/off

The Young Artist my husband's niece works at Walmart. She told me that the sales history usually sets the number of cashiers daily. If a year before sales were up - more cashiers. Sales down - less. Though my Neighborhood Market Walmart (grocery store only and smaller building) seems to always have had low sales.
