Hi Chris, nice score on the pallets. You should perhaps make a habit of driving by your neighbor's place on your way to the wood yard in case there is are pallets and pick them up. This way you can deplete the supply and they won't have to advertise to get rid of them and have a steady supply for yourself!! Perhaps when you come back from delivering a load of wood in your trailer you can also pick them up and easily dump them in your yard. Keep up the great videos.

I pound 2 steel t posts in the ground and then stand a pallet on end over the t posts so that the t posts run through the pallet like forks would. Then just line pallets up on the ground and stack away. If I have an abundance of pallets I will use pallets the same way every 8 ft as dividers.

I used wood palets for a few years but the gaps made them dangerous for the ankles. Especially the helpers. A couple of years ago I asked some public works guys I know by the lake if they knew of any old docks folks were getting rid of in decent shape. Within an hour I had two 6 by 16 foot pressure treated docks delivered to my yard. Free. Then last summer a neighbor had nine twelve foot sections four feet wide. All free! Well I cut up and burned the old palets that day. Now I have enough room to pile 20 cord off the ground. If I were you I would add wood in those wide gaps between the boards.

Your family emigrated 20 years before the famine, I wonder what was the motivation. Google the Mellon Folk Park in Omagh. They record the history of emigration to America and are a great source of reference. My mother's uncle, who was 27 years older than her father, who left home and never met his youngest brother, emigrated to San Francisco and was caught up in the earthquake. He wrote home to say he was safe using the cuff of his shirt as he had no paper and the letter arrived in due course.

Thanks again for the video Chris. In my area the blue pallets are some sort of hardwood and the business don’t like throwing those out. The hard wood ones must be expensive to make. A lot of people here, including myself cut up pallets for firewood. I don’t do it much myself, because they nasty to cut. Very hard on the back. When you hit a nail or stable, you know what that will do to a chain, and the chain can grab them and throw them out. Not good. But very good burning wood. I know some people here pick them up like you do and then repair them , then sell them to company’s who do a lot of shipping out or whoever wants them. Have a good day.

Chris, I sure am glad you have decided to keep all of that snow and cold weather up there with you. We actually made it to 80 degrees here in Texas today and we are so glad all of that white stuff is staying up there. Hopefully spring is right around the corner and you will be able to start stacking your piles.
