Oh my goodness the score for the audio book is phenomenal!

The weirdest thing about the Olympics is that this is the first one were I don't have access to free to air tv, and I keep forgetting it's happening. Like every time someone mentions it I'm like, "oh yeah, I forgot about that!" and then I immediately forget about it again 😅

In Germany, e-bikes have become so common that I feel like a real outsider on my normal old school bike. 😅 Also, I would like to repeat something I commented a few months ago: that I’m a big Tove Jansson fan and I am so excited for Ariel to read the Summer Book. 🤩 I think you might absolutely love it. It’s one of my all-time favorite books.🥰

Very excited to hear Raeleen’s thoughts on Penance! I listed to the audiobook and had complicated feelings about it, but overall quite enjoyed it.

I think Siri was saying that it’s the 30th week of 2024 so we have 22 weeks left. But that was super unclear, Siri 😂

I love you two chatting about reading. I used to read so much at your age, but then l just couldn't find books that l wanted to read. And ended up re reading a stable of favourites. Eventually l was forced to write books l wanted to read

Canoe slalom is intense. I did not know it was a thing until the Olympics.

I also got a lot of ARCs as a teenager because my best friend worked at a bookstore- so the original purpose of the publisher sending them was never to review the books but to stock them on pub date- and by the time it got to me it was "Get these out of the back room" 😂

My favorite to watch is track and field for sure.. Canada just brought home an EASY gold in the Hammer Throw!! His first throw was enough for gold and no other athletes came close! I can’t imagine clinching the win after your FIRST attempt! Go Canada!!

Omg I feel so books unbound today!!!! Just finished listening to True Grit (a books unbound classic) with my partner on our roadtrip in the southwestern states! INCREDIBLE! And read Penance last month, it was my pick for our book club! Super dark, but really interesting and compelling and loved the writing! Can’t wait to hear what Rae thinks! Also the soundtrack is incredible! Love that you guys are continuing with the audiobook!

I kept hearing IBS at the start of the Two Week Wait portion of the pod and was very confused (listening on 2x speed while doing chores might have something to do with it). Then realized you were talking about IVF and everything started making a lot more sense lol

random card game recommendation: my family and I have a card game called phase 10, is like rummy and the first to complete the 10 phases wins. Simple and fun hahaha

I love watching the Olympics. Personally I watched a lot of tennis, swimming and a little bit of golf. That made me think of Albatross, and then about how I need to read more books about sports!

if anyone (ariel? perhaps?) is looking for a short book series i highly recommend The Singing Hill Cycle by Nghi Vo. it follows a cleric traveling the country side with their animal companion collecting stories for their archive. my pitch: 1) you don’t really have to remember the plot from the previous book which makes it the perfect series to pick up as new ones come out. 2) they’re all about 120 pages each 3) it’s delightful, my favorite is the 4th book which talks about grief in such a wonderful way

Hi, this is a recommendation for Ariel : I think you should read "Fair-play" by Tove Jansson. It is very short and easy to read, by an author you love. It's about living, love, companionship, the little things of life, and it is inspired by the author's life with her partner who was also a woman. In many ways it made me think of "The Orange" by Wendy Cope. In any case, it struck me as an "Ariel book" !

Archery has been my favorite sport to watch too!! I even woke up in the middle of the night to watch Alejandra Valencia at the women's individual finals. Luckily I can watch them on youtube live or after they have happened.

I was on vacation last week, started listening and instantely noticed that the (audio-)book is way too hard in English - I mean it starts with a bunch of boat words that I can barely make sense of in my mother tongue. But I was intrigued, found a free translation and really enjoyed reading it. So unfortunately I missed out on the cool music but you still gave me an excellent recommendation - so thank you!

Ariel I think you would like The Faint of Heart by Kerilynn Wilson, it's a great graphic novel about how people started removing their hearts because they found out you no longer felt sadness, anxiety, anger and more terrible feelings. But one girl starts to see that other beautiful things are missing as well, so she needs to figure out a way to bring them back. It's so good and the art is beautiful. Raeleen, I think you would like it too, but I know you don't need more books to read.

Ariel other poetry collections by women I think you'd also love: Leigh Chadwick: Your Favorite Poet Bhanu Kapil: The Vertical Interrogation of Strangers; How to Wash a Heart Sandra Cisneros: Loose Woman; Woman Without Shame; My Wicked Wicked Ways Maggie Smith: Goldenrod

Raeleen I have a question for you: if your goal is to follow your heart, what not try picking your own book rather than asking Ariel or others to pick for you? It could be a good way to tap in deeper to what your heart truly desires! ❤

Unfortunately here in France unless you have a Eurosport subscription, it's only on 2 channels and they jump back and forth, it's kind of annoying. I turned off the TV because I thought they weren't gonna show the women's gymnastics all-around, because it had started and nothing for almost 20 min, found out later from friends that they did end up showing it, lol
