I bought the stuff to build this today. Building this today for my 125 gallon aquarium. Best idea I've seen. Her basking area is on the other side of my tank. LOVE THIS!!

Thanks for doing the video. Very educational. I did the same mixture of sustrate for my waterland tub for my adult Albino sliders. My babies are selling fast but here in the next few days, I plan to get their tank the same way.

So so helpful! 4 Questions for ya @GregJones : 1. Would you suggest this kind of method for red eared sliders as well for a nesting box? 2. What is the minimum amount of space that you would say would be adequate for a nesting area? 3. Lastly, how do you know your turtle is pregnant? I know that turtles lay eggs both fertile (from mating) and non-fertile (non-mating). I have 3 baby Red Eared Sliders right now, two boys and one girl. They are only about five months old, but trying to get prepared and educated for future! 4. Lastly, if I don't want them to mate (I can't afford to do that as of now), do you have any recommendations on how to best separate males and females? Thank you for your help!!

I built this, almost verbatim. They dont use it. Ever... I had to put my 55gal aquarium up 1/2 filled w peet moss and sand mix. Put her in the tank, cover so she doesn't escape, and leave for 2 hours. I weighed her before and after to see if I need to go digging. Cheers

Hello! My turtle laid 4 eggs in the water yesterday. So I am not sure if she is going to lay more eggs later. I was wondering if I should make the nesting box with soil inside of it. If I do, do I have to connect the water tank with the nesting box? I would really appreciate it if you can answer my question asap! Thank you! (The turtle is inside the water tank right now.)
@gregjonesonline8 жыл бұрын
if you move the eggs into an incubator they may live, all adult females need a nesting box attached to their water habitat regardless of if a male is present, hope that helps!

+Greg Jones (Greg's Fishroom) This is her first time laying eggs. Are there chances that she will lay more eggs?

+Haeun Choi yes, she could be holding more, and she is likely to lay again, I'd make a nesting box a top priority

Hey!! I have two yellow bellied sliders, I am pretty sure that the female turtle is pregnant and I have been trying to create a nesting area for her for the last year or so. I live in an apartment and don't have many options for creating a nesting area. Do anyone have any suggestions or ideas to help solve this problem? Help would be greatly appreciated!
@gregjonesonline8 жыл бұрын
you can add a plastic bin to one side of the aquarium and fill it with a sand/peat mix, then build a ramp to get into it
@DrayDay1348 жыл бұрын
Thank you for the quick reply, fortunatly I dedicated a 45 gallon tank for her nesting area! I bring her to it the days when I'm home and the water tank has a decent sized basking area. Hopefully she'll lay the eggs soon!

your turtles will probably climb up the mesh walls and they could climb up and fall out and that would end badly for a turtle(s) i have seen my turtle climb all the way to the top of a screen mesh fly screen door so i know they can climb that high
@gregjonesonline10 жыл бұрын
i'll take a second look at it, have any suggestions on how to improve?
@highroller887710 жыл бұрын
***** only thing i can think of is plexi glass or real glass, maybe if you could find some cheap cracked aquariums off of craiglist and resuse pieces from them, and maybe set up a web cam near there and see if they are even interested in trying to climb out , they may not be interested in trying to climb it
@gregjonesonline10 жыл бұрын
Michael O'Reilly i haven't seen them trying to escape yet, but it doesn't mean it won't happen, i may custom cut a few pieces of acrylic to match the shape of the transition from nesting box to stock tank and install them parallel to the ramp, thanks!
