This is a huge help. I recently purchased one of these and no manual. Great to see how to get the deck to back in service without using a pry bar. Great coverage of the rest of it too! ❤

That thing is a beauty. Having a mid-mounted zero turn now I would love to have that front tilt-up mower. So much easier to service than mine. Tell Autumn she’s supposed to be IN FRONT of the camera not behind!

They don't make them like they used to Doug. That's a really unique mower. I don't know if I would be able to sell something like that if I had it. I don't think they make anything today that'll last 25 years in that kind of condition. It obviously was well taken care of. Stay safe and healthy. Bill H from Cranberry Township

If you are looking for a new on i have had my Kubota ZD21 for 17 years and would say it is the best machine i have ever owned. It is a zero turn with a 60 in. deck and 21 hp. diesel. i have done nothing to it but oil changes and sharpen blades. It has a built in jack to jack it up to jack up the deck. They are worth looking at but not cheap.

Hey Neighbor Doug! I enjoy seeing what you are up to with Adam. I quit the rat race yrs ago & drove a Grasshopper 60" front deck ztr mower for the municipal cemetery in a central USA state. I put in 8 hr days on the machines all summer. Wish I still had property to keep up but I live in the desert now where the extreme heat this summer killed many native plants. Wonderful seeing green grass and trees on your property and remembering my mowing times.

I keep an extra set of sharp blades for my Grasshopper 220 mid mount (2001 model). That way I only have to get down on the ground once to have sharp blades. I usually change them out every 4 mowings. More often if we mow our church or a rental property.

Nice machine Doug. I see a lot of cushman and grasshopper in this design. One more critical maintenance task is…clean engine cooling fins. Thankfully JD/Kohler thought about how much a PIA it is to do on horizontal crank engines set in this configuration and installed inspection/clean out plates. Those gold color zinc covers on the front of engine cowling are what they are for. Remove and blow out with compressed air.

Great video Doug! Super job. You are an amazing man. You have more tools than anyone I know. The thing is you know how to use all of them. For my 2¢ worth, I’d keep it if for nothing else, sentimental reasons. I understand if it’s time to let it go though. It can be a Marie Condo moment. Thank it for its service and let it go. If you decide on the other hand to keep it good for you. If not someone is going to acquire a marvelous mower. You are 1 in a million. See you in the next installment.

Can't beat a front mount! I like the way the suspension is built into the entire operator station. Is it missing some housings over the pulleys on the outside, or is it just old school enough when manufacturers didn't care too much about things like that? Ha

Care, use and maintenance is the key to long running equipment. Of course, you have to start with good equipment. Long reach hose pliers are a great tool to have for those tough to reach spark plug boots and other hoses. What a nice machine. Great video. Thanks for sharing.

I have an almost 30 year old JD Commercial walk behind. The thing is a tank and it starts up on the first or second pull every time. I almost sold it when I got my zero turn but, I could not part ways with such a great machine. I do clean up the scratches at the end of the year and touch them up just keep it looking good. I wish my yellow rims looked as good as yours. Did you ever paint the rims?

750 hours in 25 years does seem pretty low, that's only 30 hours per year. My 2021 Scag has 125 hours on it and I cut an area that's about 1/2 the size of your front yard. May the clock has rolled over already? :) Also, have you considered using Fluid Film on the bottom of the deck to help keep grass from sticking and help reducing the rust on the deck?
@2020Tundra
@2020Tundra Жыл бұрын
I thought the same thing with such “low hours” given it’s age. My brand new Wright ZXT 72 already has 80 hours and I’ve only cut with it since April of this year… and I’m not a professional landscaper. Doug’s JD reminds me of our old Cushman diesel front mount mower that we have on the farm, but the steer tires are in the rear.

Tough to believe the number of hours. The size of lawns involved makes me think 750 hours would be put on in 7-12 years. Not doubting your veracity but wondering if the math or gauge are off. God’s Blessings, Curly

Hey Doug! Do you think this is a good deal? New equipment at the local JD dealer. JD 1025R utility tractor. 2023 model. 120R loader with bucket 260B backhoe with bucket $26,200 Plus Sales Tax total $28,296.
@OneEyeCustoms
@OneEyeCustoms Жыл бұрын
Hi Doug, my guess is if it is a new 2023 and with the 2024’s already out they may want to sell it so it isn’t a left over from the previous model year. I would see if you can get another quote from another John Deere dealer on a 2024 and see if there is much of a price increase.
@GeoffryWK
@GeoffryWK Жыл бұрын
@@OneEyeCustoms The 2023 1025R is $18,035 for the quote I got, the 2024 is listed at $18,396, not much of an increase. But I can't find the prices for 2024 on the loader and backhoe. There is only one dealer near me here in South Carolina near North Myrtle Beach. It's about 12 miles from me. The rest are too far away and delivery charges would be too much. The three on the lot are brand new with less than 10 hours on the meter. Probably just from the factory to transport and off loading at the dealer and Dealer testing an prep. So I don't think there would be much price increase over the 2023 equipment. Thanks for answering.
