I love the way you show absolutely flawless people in your videos, rather than the often ugly, vapid and plain nauseating real characters of the time. It helps the sad stories like this one become a little more potent. Julia was one of the first captives of a new system her father was instituting.

1:30 Saying that Julia became a "trophy" wife of Tiberius is like saying that Tiberius became a trophy husband of Julia. Such marriages were the norm in the upper classes and the rich. A marriage of love was very rare.

Marriage of love are still rare. Most end in divorce and the husband pays everything.

Funny, I had watched a bunch of videos on Roman history and I was thinking -- dang, Julia had it hard.

It's crazy to think that Marcus Antonius was the greatest enemy of Caesar Augustus, but it all came down to young Octavian's first election. Had Mark Antony simply given his blessing when Octavian won the office of Tribune of the Plebs, it may have been less necessary for Octavian to seek counsel with Cicero. Instead, Mark Antony firmly insisted that Octavian was not old enough to qualify for the office, and thus the election results were null and void. This was actually true, however, knowing how popular Octavian had already become, it's likely no one else would have contested the election results. With Mark Antony's endorsement, Octavian may have felt compelled to authorize Mark Antony as replacement of Brutus as pro-consul of CisAlpine Gaul. It was not meant to be, and the man witholding Octavian's inheritance finalized his status as an enemy of Caesar Divi Filius by turning his back on him. ⚔️
