Thank you for these gems! Hearing of these failed attempts at aggrandizement, I am more impressed by how Claudius managed to avoid being ensnared in anyone's machinations. The Julii women seem to have blinders on throughout their lives. They consistently overstepped their position. I also begin to understand why Tiberius was so liberal in his destruction of his enemies. Again, thank you for this series!

Very much appreciated. But are the nest hats needed for something other than an ambiguous reminder of crowns of thorns? Thank you!

Its quite surprising to me just how early we're hearing the names of people who will become imperial levels of importance two emporers away already. How time flies in rome

Politics overruled every aspect of life among the patricians. So much so that Tiberius could exile himself to Rhodes, and still not escape the sordid events in Rome. Julia the Younger was truly a victim of the times, as her husband was most likely murdered by the Praetorian prefect, Sejanus, who had designs on power. Having an affair with Decimus Junius Silanus in the wake of her husband's death seems to indicate Julilla's obliviousness to the Junius family heritage. The murder of Julius Caesar by Marcus Junius Brutus and the "Liberators" was, after all, how Augustus came to power. ⚔️
