Watching Brennan's face transform from, "what a fun, silly fact" to "this is legitimately the most threatening thing I have ever heard" is top tier entertainment

The way that Hank manages to condition the other players into knowing he's about to say some *absolutely wild shit* as soon as he says about five words that appear to be completely unrelated to the situation at hand, or 'did you know', is insane. His power...

Fascinating! Did you know that sperm whales are also one of the species that sleeps the least? They sleep about 7 percent of the day and only in naps of about 10-20 minutes. @@Xanderj89I don't really see any reason to connect it to ableism. The bizarre, unrelatable pattern of people being bothered by more knowledgeable/more intelligent people to me stems from the disappointing and embarrassing commonality of anti-intellectualism in US culture most significantly but it also harms other cultures. I find the pattern/cultural value utterly bizarre and surreal and also the cause of so many intelligent fictional characters in popular media being inexplicably intelligent in everything ever.

"Just fun facts. They're not scary." This is true. Were I reading these facts in a little compendium by the toilet, I would probably think that book is named "Just Some Fun Facts For When You Ain't Leaving The Toilet For A Long Time And Need Something To Occupy Your Time And Mind". Or something to that effect. What I'm saying is, context and delivery are also incredibly important in determining exactly how fun something is, and almost every time Hank opens his mouth, it doesn't take long for these facts to become terrifying.

Humans have “taste receptors” in their digestive tracts, urethra, and testicles as well as a few other places in the body. These are mainly connected to autonomic regulation functions for release of enzymes and other substances. They really are just a chemical binding site connected to the nervous system. So these receptors are not truly affiliated with taste, they just share a common mechanism for operating as reuse of common structures is biologically efficient.
@Blasted2Oblivion
@Blasted2Oblivion 8 ай бұрын
Your statement may be more scientifically accurate but I am still going to share the simple version first to reel people in to the science.
@biiill5259
@biiill5259 Күн бұрын
Interestingly all these chemical receptors are reactive to at least one chemical regardless of location. Capsaicin. The spicy chemical
@LogicalNiko
@LogicalNiko Күн бұрын
@ this is because it triggers the vanilloid receptor 1. This receptor detects vanillin and many other similar shaped substances. But this receptor also in one of the receptors that can sense temperature and physical sensation. This demonstrates how biologically there are a lot of unusual overlaps in receptors that developed more on their efficiency of function over specific segmenting of duties. So what Capsaicin does is it basically locks in to the receptor having a shape that’s similar to vanilla, but it causes an overdrives this receptor. It’s basically causing it to stay in an excited state and keep firing, this causes it to register all the sensations of taste, physical irritation, and temperature all at once. Basically chili peppers evolved a perfect defense mechanism to stop mammals from eating their fruit.

An interesting fact about the brain (which feels rather appropriate given the setting of this season) is that its constantly undergoing a process called phagocytosis (or pruning), where essentially it eats itself. The brain's cells will consume smaller cells and molecules to help preserve your grey matter and get rid of unneeded neurological connections. (Edit: spelling)
@dark_neverland

This makes sense since all the cells in iur body, outside the heart & lungs, if i remember correctly, regenerate every 7 years. I always wondered what the heck the brain did
@Pablo360able
@Pablo360able 6 ай бұрын
The immune system also uses phagocytosis to deal with virii and bacteria, and tattoos hijack this process - immune cells "eat" the tattoo ink, but can't break it down, so they just... stand there, menacingly. It's why tattoos last as long as they do and don't fade or bleed nearly as fast as they otherwise might.

Did you know that the axolotl-a species of salamander native to Mexico-has regenerative properties so powerful that it can regrow an entire limb in less than two months? And it can also regrow parts of its heart, eyes, and brain? And scientists, trying to study this ability, have grafted an axolotl's head onto another axolotl's body, and the creatures can survive for over a year like that?

What I've read in biology said that mammary glands evolved from sweat glands, and that milks is what happens when you turn the fat content of sweat to the point it will form fat bergs.

I believe sweat itself came from blood, though. My guess is he forgot the middle steps but remembered the overall fact.

People I look up to and respect as creators going, to both Evan Kelmp and The Fix, “holy shit that was legitimately very threatening” gives me hope both as a creative and as a person with the general dangerousness of an unmoving stone. I could be,, The Scary

Obviously, the Fix's facts are fun and very intimudating, but the winner for me was "would you like to turn around and go away, or would you like to see if i can keep myself from punching you too hard."

It's very rare that a player deals legitimate psychic damage to the rest of the people at the table; but everyone's reaction to The Fix saying that the urethra contains taste-bud-like receptors? Truly one of a kind.

i would HIGHLY reccomend you guys watch this season if you haven’t! a ton of puns, a fun take on noir with an intriguing mystery, and a FANTASTIC table using a non-D&D based system. absolutely worth the subscription!

Sweat is somewhat the same as milk. You’re sweating blood practically. It just also has no heem. It’s the “watery bits” from your blood in the very basic sense.
