As hard as it is to watch the foundering black horse, it is important that everyone honor her suffering by watching all the way through. To look away is to deny what is happening. To watch is to respect her and the people who are working to ease her suffering. Thank you for giving her the last few minutes of kindness and the last act of kindness, so that she knew for just a moment that she was valued.

The fact that the black horse is only 12 years old, but is in such horrific shape and so much pain that he is not even trying to show willingness to live is just heartbreaking. Thank you all for showing him pity and giving him love before he was put down. This is something that I, as a former horse owner, I just can't conceive of allowing. It just is foreign to my mind. Bless you all. Thank you, Mike, for all of the feed donated to the mares and foals. It is definitely going to be appreciated.

It's always heartwarming to see the level of compassion given to each and every horse by HPHS staff. I admire each of you as you do your best to evaluate and help them. The black one down in the trailer was a tough one to see. Poor thing. I very much appreciate the immediate care and TLC he received in his last moments. His human truly failed him. It's so, so sad. And maddening that they aren't held accountable for neglecting animals in their care. Hopefully one day soon that will be change.

I was appalled at the amount of dust that came out of the hay when he was putting out new bales in the fields! All of us know that this can lead to "heaves" - a lung condition that is nearly impossible to treat. On a different note.... we have a number of horses that have missing or no teeth due to their age. They will wad up a mouthful of hay or grass, suck on it and then spit it out. We have them in dry lot pens to avoid their doing this and choking if they try to swallow the chunk of it. We have them on a senior grain that is in a pellet form and on "hay cubes ". These are alfalfa hay ground up and then pressed into 2 inch cubes. This provides the horses with the nutrients and the fiber that they need to keep their weight on and the volume to keep their digestive tract in good order. The cubes come in 50 lb bags and have a chart on them to advise how much to give for the size of the horse. You have to pay attention to limits as this is alfalfa and you can over feed and founder a horse with it by giving too much. We have several horses in their 30's that are in excellent condition with this regimen. Most people are shocked when they find out how old they are! This is not a cheap solution but it has worked wonders for our horses. 😂

I really really wish people would stop cutting the horses mains, forelocks and tails. It's not a good look and it takes forever for them to grow back like it should. Plus these long hair things are there for a purpose, they are a natural fly swat, and I do believe they help with the cooling processes of the horses. Just saying
@vickypedia1353Ай бұрын
And the mane even keeps them warm too. When it rains or snows, if you lift the mane, you’ll see the coat underneath is completely dry. Icelandics are a great example, they can be covered in a blanket of snow, but their skin stays dry thanks to their shaggy coats and thick manes.
