These are AMAZING lyrics. Sometimes you guys lost a rhyme or a syllable balancing the cadence of the musical with the right words to adapt this story, but Angelica's three fundamental truths are some of the fastest lines in Hamilton with the most tightly packed rhymes, and you *nailed that shit to the wall.*

The whole production is brilliant, but what blows me away every time is how completely the writing and performance realized Allura - the show takes the core of the character and shows just how epic her story is. Musical!Allura is probably my favorite character in any version of the story, and I hope the animated series takes a clue from her characterization here.

Musical!Allura is actually extremely faithful to original Allura and I feel pretty much the same emotions here as I did when I witnessed Matt roleplaying her - I'm happy with how they brought light to her through this production but I always feel like the audience and the cast was glossing over/downplaying Allura's internal struggles. I'm glad this musical gives her solos and lets her characterization have some space to breathe.

I definitely felt everything they expressed in this song, but always felt her inner torment was overlooked by many of the cast members and the audience. I'm so glad that this production is giving her struggles the spotlight it deserves.

Having to power through your greatest fear with the knowledge that you can't show weakness because the "real heroes" as it were are looking to you and trusting you that they'll make it through. And if you crack for even a second you'll let them all down. Oh and the implied PTSD and flashbacks. Can't forget that. This song is amazing and one of my favourites but God it hits hard.

We absolutely got these thoughts!! Even if she didn't get to monologue, basically the same sentiments came through really clearly in Allura's dialogue and the way Matt was roleplaying her!! I remember being really frustrated when watching it because it seemed like the cast and the audience really weren't paying attention to her inner struggles like this and they ended up bringing GILMORE to resolve Allura's biggest personal conflict! Like she never really got closure over her dead friends and her guilt about this? If Allura was a PC she'd be pulling a Bard's Lament at some point.

I have friends that have served in the military. The song lyrics here sing about them. If I had seen it sooner if I had only done this instead of that. It is sad but also fitting to see this mental and emotional anguish in the NPC's who were there. Allura is the strongest wizardess for likely several hundred miles, and there was only so much she could do. She still believes that she should have done more even though she was fighting dragons that are literal catastrophes in motion. My heart hurts for her just as it does for my friends.

I love this. As much as I love Gilmore, And believe me, I love him VERY much, I remember being very frustrated by the players obliviousness at Allura's obvious feelings about confronting Thordak and about how she thought she might be able to provide a distraction. I was like, GUYS! THIS IS HER BACKSTORY!!! COME ON!!!! They often don't listen when Matt talks and it gets annoying sometimes lol. Ah well, Still love them.

I may like this even more than I do the actual Critical Role. In my opinion Matthew Mercer is actually quite weak as a DM and none of his NPCs ever really stuck with me, however in this telling of the story every single character is done so well. I believe the strength of Critical Role is the players and the party dynamic and all of Matt's stuff is just background that can be quite boring. That and for a "voice actor" he's terrible at differentiating voices for his NPCs. But songs like this give those weak or boring characters he made and give them good actors and make them likable. Also fully expecting some hate for saying he's a bad DM so lay it on me.
