Beautiful radio. My first SSB rig, back in 1978. Thanks for showing.

Hello Paul. This radio has a very special PLL-circuit: The TC5080 is the programmable divider. The TC5052 is the reference oscillator and reference divider. Last but not least: the TC5081 is the phase comparator. All three parts are working together and conduct the PLL circuit. The SOMMERKAMP TS788DX has a similar PLL-circuit with TC5081/TC5082 but with a TC9122 programmable divider. Thank you for your post..73's. Stefan.

What a superb Snake you own. Paul......if that unit had said Nippon Denghi on it , It would of been built by Belcom of Japan , but with some inside information from Cobra , I understand after the US period of building radios (CAM 88), prior to Uniden building units Toshiba built them for a short while, prior to Uniden taking over....so i'm 99% posative that your radio is Toshiba built......73 Dave

I bought one used with all original packaging, and documentation back in 1995. It was the first 40 channel CB with AM & SSB by Cobra in the 1970s. At least the model I had. Eventually a few years later I bought a more fancy Superstar 3900 and loaned the 132 XLR to a friend who eventually lost it when he lost his home. I miss the 132, it was a fun and great radio. My channel switch was an external one added to the bottom. I got lots of great SSB contacts with it doing DX.I would buy another one.

I'm pretty sure that Toshiba made the Browning & Tram Mobile's of the 70's. Thanks for the super video's!

True, there are some things in regards to the way they're put together that would be a real bear to repair. 73's Paul

I have a 132A...do you know of any mod boards that I could put in this or where I can get info on turning the watts up for the AM?

I hear the first fellow transmitting say "Monterey bay" I'm from Monterey California as well. Are you around here or was that just skip? Anyway. I'm looking to buy a 32XLR locally but your radio looks good also. Always looking for locals to get tips and tricks with tuning for our hilly/"tree-y" terrain. Thanks.

Cool looking radio. My Browning Baron has the VERY same board as well....

Thank you. Yes they made many of them. Except for the Tram D300 base and D80 mobile. Those two were made by Uniden. Both were short lived because Tram went under. 73's Paul

Hello Stefan. Thank you for the info my friend. I didn't realize this radio used such an elaborate PLL setup. There are a number of other US models that use this same setup according to pedrokv.com PLL list. 73's Paul

The Baron could be another one that is this same chassis. I've never seen the inside of one. But your right, the outsides show similarities and since you remember the transistor mounting being like this it's possible.

Thank you Dave. I didn't know about the brief Toshiba manufacture period until I picked this radio up. They had some straight AM units made in Korea for a short time as well like the 19XS. I assume that was the same time period as the Japanese Toshiba rigs but suspect the Korea models to possibly be Maxxon made. Could you ask them sometime about their short lived Korea radios? I wonder if they were really Cobra radios or fakes using the name. They look different from the others. 73's Paul

Finding one with the box & documentation is tough today. I see the manuals now and then but the other items they came with are few a far between. The radios themselves come up for sale now and then & are not to pricey. These Toshiba produced Cobra radios were short lived. Cobra switched to Uniden for production not long into Toshiba production. I'm sure there is a story as to why but like most things that have to do with CB the real reason will likely never be known. Hope you find another 132.

Umm I said in the video I don't mod clarifiers and prefer them stock. So no worries there. When I was looking for any and all info on these I ran across people talking about how hard the clarifiers are to open and align on this chassis.

Thank you for the offer Zeke but I believe I'm good for crystals for it. I do need some 6mhz mixing crystals for a Pearce Simpson Guardian 23.

Leave the clarifier alone as they are a REAL PIA to tune. My old 135 XLR was that way. Im pro modding radios but that chassis is one that i do not endorse opening up..

Cool radio but don't count on too many techs that want to work on it due to it being a double sided board radio.. I don't know of any that will work on any DSB radios.
