My dad has been gone for a long time now, but when I was a kid in the 60"s & 70"s he ha an HA-230 next to his bed. That"s the non-kit version of your radio. I didn"t end up with it. Spent a lot of time listening to that thing back then. Recently, a fellow ham here leaned of my love for that raio and picked up one cheap. Hecapped it, cleaned it up, & re-strung it, then gifted it to me, I just fired it up today for the 1st time. It still needs a lot of work... new glass ordered... needs to be calibrated, etc. Really enjoyed your video; It motivated me to continue working on this 'labor of love' project. you"re Central tz, maybe Texas from the accent... so am I. ;-) 73 K5MWA

What did you ever end up with with your maco 4 element as far as element length and spacing to get it to work on the upper frequencies

I know this is an old video but something ive learned throughout the last 45 years. When using vertical put the gamma match on top. I use a flip flop rotor on mine and when I rotate it vertical, I get a great standing wave with the gamma match above the boom instead of below the boom which puts the gamma straight in line with the mast.

I Bought This Combo New in 1978 Paid $179.95 for it back then got rid of it and but Engraved some info on the inside and A friend of mine brought it to me minus the Console , which I have harvested A couple different ones over the Yrs Nice Video Thank You

How could I buy this radio?

In the 1970's i picked up my Sears Road Talker up from a table in Sears I guess the store was closing going out of business, and they had all the radio with everything else on a table for great prices .

Came out in late 1972, my base in high school, still have it.

Its an updated Radio Shack DX-100 with a better quality speaker and with a lower quality fine tuning ability. The Emerson version also has a different signal meter and doesnt do fine tuning. Not bad for a 25+ year old receiver for AM/Shortwave and Weather band. It will pick up air band but the static between transmissions gets annoying.

I wonder what happened with this channel - I just happened to find it. Lots of cool stuff on here. 📻

Silicone tape is what I use for joints. Works great and a cleaner install. 100% weather proof.

looks to be in great shape - I have one I bought in the 80s from Radio Shack. It has transisters breaking down so I try to not use it. I want to get someone to go through it so I can once more use it. I only get about hald of a meter band, the other part is dead throughout the spectrum.

I had one of theses back in the day and ran a 250 kicker with it and a silver Eagle mic! 😮 OMG did that get out!

I stumbled up on one looks like brand new everything works on it all the tubes it's a little Jewel it came with a Turner SSB + 2 transistorized desktop mic... Doing around 50 watts... A perfect clean little radio and I love it.......

Due to all the china junk thesebjaan builds have become highly sought after. I myself have 2 of them and love them. And as for who built them i have no clue. But they are tanks. And cybernet is my bet.
