You Are Not Broken - Dr. Kelly Casperson

Ай бұрын

In this episode, Dr. Ellen Gendler, a New York City dermatologist, discusses the role of estrogen in skincare and hair care. She shares her journey on social media and addresses the stigma of vanity in skincare.
Dr. Gendler emphasizes the importance of using topical estrogen in selected areas of the face and hands, highlighting the need for longer-term studies on its efficacy.
She also recommends incorporating vitamin C and DNA repair enzymes into skincare routines. Additionally, she discusses the differences between prescription tretinoin and over-the-counter retinols, emphasizing the importance of sunscreen in protecting the skin from sun damage.
In this conversation, Dr. Ellen Gendler discusses various topics related to skincare and haircare. She talks about the effectiveness of moisturizers and the impact of alcohol on the skin. She also addresses midlife hair loss and the different treatment options available. Dr. Gendler shares her insights on eyebrow growth and microblading, as well as the use of Botox and fillers.
She provides her perspective on exosomes and peptides in skincare and haircare products. Finally, she emphasizes the importance of using retinoids and sunscreen for healthy skin and discusses the role of dental health in facial aging.
Takeaways
* Moisturizers are not always effective, and alcohol can dehydrate the skin and cause flares of rosacea.
* Midlife hair loss is a common issue, and there are various treatment options available, including spironolactone and minoxidil.
* Microblading can be risky and may lead to scarring, while eyebrow pencils are a safer and cheaper alternative.
* Botox can be a miracle treatment when done correctly, but it should be administered by a trained professional.
* Fillers can enhance facial features, but it's important to choose a skilled injector and avoid permanent fillers.
* Exosomes and peptides in skincare and haircare products are not yet proven to slow down the aging process.
* Retinoids and sunscreen are essential for healthy skin, and dental health plays a role in facial aging.
* It's important to be discerning when it comes to skincare and haircare products and choose what works best for you.

Ok I was afraid to admit that I started using vaginal estrogen cream on my face too. I thought that if it was good down there than it is good up here. This doctor just confirmed my hypothesis

I am 60. Been using tretinoin, vitamin c and sunscreen for two decades. Last year I added estrogen cream. I mix it with my tretinoin and apply to face at night. Vitamin c and sunscreen in am. It has helped the quality of my skin immensely.

I got braces in 1973. When I got my retainer, I was told that I had to wear it no matter what, and I did obey. However, my retainer was made poorly and it pushed really hard on one of my front teeth so I got an injured, and now I have a discolored front tooth. It hurt but I was told it was nonnegotiable and I knew that braces hurt when they tightened them but I only had one tooth that hurt and I wasn’t taught to use my mind and speak up when something seemed right. Welcome to the days of “be a good girl.” my bottom piece did not have any teeth pulled and I had a built-in retainer from the inside pushing out for seven years. When they took it off my teeth went back… The tooth that had been Twisted 180° is no longer twisted but it’s crowded. I guess that tells you that my 1973 orthodontist didn’t have the information he needed to do a good job.

Additional comment I started retinol eye at 28. In 30s adapalene in 40s low low dose tretinoin. Worked my way up. My dermatologist says no reason for me to go above.5. Said no increase benefit just irritation at 1%.

Question about minoxidil for hair growth. Is it true if you stop using the medication once you start, one can expect to experience more hair loss than before starting the regimen. If you use systemic estrogen doesn't it help all your skin? Because surely transdermal estradiol would go to everywhere? I don't get why not?
@noodlep2547
@noodlep2547 Ай бұрын
I read somewhere that systemic estradiol will be taken up first where it’s most needed in the body and skin may not be a priority. Not sure how true that is, but it did make me decide to put a small portion of my prescription for Oestrogel on my face and back of my hands. My prescription amount pretty much covers half of my body anyway!

Thanks for the information I never took birth control and I'm 55 now. I've been using some estriol on my face for I don't know maybe on and off the pass couple months and I've never had a problem with melasma or hyperpigmentation except for one summer like 12 or 13 years ago I got a little bit of a hyperpigmentation on my cheek when I was water skiing all summer. It went away with my skincare routine, but other than that I use vitamin C and all kinds of other skin care items.... and of course sunscreen daily.. the melasma issue with estrogen is a concern for everyone, though, I suppose.

I have an estriol/estradiol cream that I sue a tiny amount on my wrists and inner arms daily in the morning, it has been incredible what a difference it has made (I’m peri menopause still have periods but can be erratic). I’m interested in using it on my face, can I swap from the wrist area to face and still get good enough absorption that it will still do all the other good stuff or is it just for a superficial skin improvement treatment? I don’t want to use more than I do now as it makes me feel odd if I use too much.

What do you doctors think about Sebaceous Hyperplasia? I've learned that only a dermatologist can remove these things and that growth factors can cause it. I was using Perricone's growth factor face cream about 2 1/2 years ago and a year and a half ago I got this sebaceous hyperplasia on the bridge of my nose and nothing will take it away. No amount of Trentinoin, glycolic acid, lactic acid, any acids or exfoliation, nothing, and I'm thinking I'm going to have to see a dermatologist. I checked with my Kaiser dermatologist and they said there's nothing that can be done for that... it's not cancer so it's cosmetic and we're not going to remove it 🙄 PS I use Timeless Skincare Vitamin C with ferulic acid which is said to be comparable to SkinCeuticals and then I use a South Korean sunscreen which is absolutely fantastic, 50 spf., very nice under makeup and inexpensive.

Well, our spirits are definitely broken. Jesus Christ came to bind up the brokenhearted and to redeem us from all brokenness. Our spitball state is corrupted by our sins. Jesus is our propitiation; the Lamb of God who takes away the sins of the world!!! Hallelujah! We do our best for our health but we all are passing away. Jesus came that we might have life. He is the way, the truth, and the life. Through Him, only, can we enter into the presence of God.
