Its a humbling experience for sure but i’m loving it anyway. my first attempt assembling the cases I put the crank in backwards 😂 I’ve decided to bullet proof it now with SKF bearings since i’m pulling it apart. I built some pullers out of 3/4" bolts, drilled out down the shaft and tapped it to the threading of the crank. The problem is that you need one for each size and threading, and you need a bushing that sits on the inner race of the bearing that fits around the crankshaft. Really fiddly. I didn't want to try the hot/cold method because I thought it would be too difficult, but seeing how you put the bearings onto the crank first instead of into the case blew my mind. I'm definitely going to try it that way next time I get myself a saw to build. These videos are invaluable, Tinman!

Ruler! It's one thing to read instructions, or a book, or manual, but showing people what it actually looks like and the technique is pure gold. I was breaking down an xl12 today and needed a flywheel puller, so i took 15-20 minutes and made one. It worked really well and I just kinda stopped and looked at it and thought, man, i wish someone showed me how to do this stuff when I was 14 or 15. You're doing that for thousands of people. Thank you.

another great episode. you make it look achievable for us mere mortals. i am very interested in learning the tricks to fix the stuffups as i am sure i will need them. :D i have poured boiling water over automotive pistons to get the gudgeon pins out. i am not sure i would use boiling water to assemble a saw but it might be useful in disassembly.

Great info on this video! In a pinch in certain applications to freeze things to shrink them I've used cans of compressed air or keyboard cleaner and turn the upside down and it shoots out in liquid state and freezes what ever faster or piece you need smaller by a few thou... "In a pinch" lol #ropehangers

Tim you're the man!!! I really appreciate someone who does things with Finesse and Integrity that's built to withstand whatever is thrown it and will last darn near forever with the proper maintenance of course. I'm a mechanic that went Custom building cars until I retired a few years ago. I did some stuff when I lived Atlanta back in the late 80's that was Bad Ass! For Sure!!! The little street bike I had would wear the biggest and baddest bikes out down there, if you had the balls to ride it with all it would do by doing what you are doing now. It Literally took all I could do to hold on to the handle bars up to 4th gear. Yamaha RD 400. 2 cylinder 2 stroke on a frame with frt and rear disc brakes and aluminum wheels w/ 6so trans. It was light enough you about pick up the whole bike by yourself. I could pull the frt wheel in 4th under a good straight condition and a good road surface. I'm going to do a couple of my saws now but they are clam shells and wonder if it's even worth the effort on them??? I've never seen anyone even mention the CS type. Do you think it's worth the effort on a Poulan 42cc and a Husky 41.5. They run pretty good especially after the muffler mods that I learned from you. (Thanks!)👍 I'll keep watching the tricks of the trade you know and share because it is so interesting to find power that's been dormant and it's been right there the whole time. He certainly does make it look easy, try doing this the first time without the help of a video...after a 14 hour shift on a 16 day stretch...from experience I can say this guy SHOWS experience ... absolutely phenomenal video I started screwing around with junk maybe 3 years ago (41 husq then 3314 poulan then 3816homelite...all bottom of the barrel budget box store saws from the dump) because I wanted to get to a point I could build a 372 in a town where your absolutely not going to find any 372's that was my goal, I lost count how many times I tore down and redid the 41 before it was useable( I was chasing air leak and aftermarket carb probs) then the 3314 came much easier overall and i started trying port work on the 3816 then learned from some mistakes ,still not even close to the knowledge of tinman and iron horse on porting and nailing perfect numbers but I got to the point I was ready to order a hutzl 372 and have at it..the first one turned out to be a screamer...just not in the cut😒 the second pulls alot better In the cut..Huge Respect for this channel, thanks for enabling our addictions Tinman!!

I love these old Husky saws (266, 61, 268, 272) Tell me, other than the two drilled and tapped holes for the pleated air filter upgrade on the 268, 272.... is there any other differences between the cases on 61, 66, 266, 268 and 272?? Also, if you put a 52mm big bore can and piston on a 266, what mods do you need to do? Different top cover? Different Carb?? Thanks for any help you can give. 👍👍

I just bought a 272 xp the guy sold it as ported…but after I got home I noticed he had Chinese gas tank and other pieces……not to mention piston and carb…..did I get screwed? I have a chance to buy another for 400.00 but it’s just oem and had a new jug and piston…..I think I was taken advantage of because I was a girl and he just didn’t care…..tell me what you think please. I could really use the help. My dad passed away this feb and my mother threw away his johnsered 272 and his husky …….thanks so much

I got a 268 in the mail last week missing a few parts……muffler carb and carb bolts my 625 J’red muffler should fit but can’t seem to remove it not one of my t handles does anything when I try undo it🤷‍♂️

Never tried those, I've always thought it wouldn't work because cases are generally magnesium but the Tinman is no welder so.....
