Not 100% correct, but I'm pretty sure that James Reynolds forced hamilton into paying him to [phac] his wife by threatening to starve Maria Reynolds' daughter. (Again, not 100% sure). So Maria is kind of the victim here. Also, in 1793 she was able to divorce James with the help of Aaron Burr.

It's funny that such a smart man who thought the most important thing was being seen as great by everyone and leaving behind a legacy was stupid enough to cheat on his wife! the worst thing is this is the one hamilton song that gets stuck in my head when i Don't want it to. it's a really uncomfortable song to be in your head at work 😂 it's such a catchy tune though like damn i understand Jane's anger. it hits me kind of personally as my awful father was a cheater! and while i don't forgive him and shouldn't forgive Hamilton, he is a very important part of American history. This musical really shows him as human, though. All of these historical figures, while they've done good for our country, they were also real human beings and they did some bad shit. They made big mistakes and terrible decisions just as people continue to do today.

KevinJusticeWarrior this is a straight up matter of opinion. To a vast majority of people, being a decent person trumps deeds done. I am not saying he didn’t do a hell of a lot, he did. I am merely saying being a giant piece of shit (not just the cheating, almost NO ONE liked him who dealt with him, as a person) brings his accomplishments down a notch or two if you aren’t just looking at him from a political/professional standpoint. Think of how bad it was for Clinton in the 90’s with his impeachment when cheating and divorce was pretty commonplace. Now magnify that by going back a couple hundred years. There’s a reason he could never recover, professionally, and took a massive tragedy personally for him to recover his marriage. Like I said, he was incredibly complicated. He did a hell of a lot of good stuff professionally, but personally was shit.

It’s worth mentioning that Hamilton published an admission to the affair himself because he regarded it better than investigations that could have led to discovery of financial crimes (mainly helping his friends do insider trading). The mistress denied it happened and his wife forgave him quickly, both of which may suggest the affair never actually occurred and was just a story to be a red herring, or it could just be that divorce was much less accepted back then.

If there's one thing we all know, it actually was a good thing for Alexander that he ended up marrying Eliza, the more understanding and demure one. Because Eliza burned his letters but if Angelica was his wife she would have set HIM on fire 🔥 🤣🤣
@TheYetiThornton4 жыл бұрын
But at the same time what Eliza did was just as vicious. Throughout the play it emphasizes the importance that Alexander places on his own writing (which he equates to a legacy). In a way it’s his “proof” of grandeur and Eliza literally burns what is most important to him, his writing/letters. She knows what will hurt Alexander the most and she doesn’t hesitate to burn it down. She actually mentions how the letters could have redeemed him in her song Burn, but she instead used it against him by eliminating them. She was badass in her own way.
