I have a late 2017 IMac and it is still a beast! Always but the iMac if you need it and get the most powerful on you can afford. Best Buy’s credit card is a great way to get one with a good monthly payment and then get to editing!!! Great video Tyler.

This is a very nice video and, I enjoyed hearing your reflections. It was also great to be able view and compare both your older and newer iMac's side-by-side. As for myself, I look at things differently. For me it would depend on how much, I love the current design or if I would really prefer to own a newer more modern designed iMac system. When buying my iPad preferred the older 9.7 inch size so, I picked up one a few months before apple changed the design. Also, I think the iMac Pro will be one of the first computers redesigned with the new apple processor.

Unpopular opinion: I prefer the glossy version of screens because the matte texture causes the screen to be ~noticeably/slightly less sharp

I went with the glossy screen too. Nano-texture is totally worth it if you're in a bright top lit room or you have a window on the side or even behind. But from where my iMac is sitting I can't see any glare during the day.

@@sunnycharacter I was thinking the same thing....why have a 5K resolution and the option of a Radeon Pro 5500 video card if you are going to put in a flat matte screen? Kind of defeats the whole purpose. That nursing home aged 2013 iMac has brighter and clearer images.

Solid logic here. For pros it’s always about ROI (how quickly will it pay for itself) and UI (in this case especially, the screen you stare at 8 hours a day)

The last version of the iMac G5 was released in late 2005. The latest OS that supported it was Mac OS X Leopard late 2007. Food for thought.

I just buy updates when I really need them, I feel like if you can wait, wait, if you need one, buy, they’re is never a 100% right time. I’ve had my MacBook Pro since 2015 and it’s done me well until lately, broken battery and just running so slow and recently started crashing - so I’ve ordered a 2020 iMac :)

2015 isn't really that bad for a MacBook Pro. I'm working on a 2013 and it's still doing well. Granted, I only review files and update some system files living on servers somewhere else... I'm waiting to see how Apple silicone Macs do before I buy my next computer.

I really love it and if it wasn't having so many issues I wouldn't be replacing, but I used it all throughout uni and full time freelance design for 2 years, as my only machine, and it's showing the struggle now sadly. Right my 2012 iMac is still doing great for my purposes (not graphic professional) and my 2008 MacBook pro is still doing well, though I did upgrade to SSD which made a big difference.

I have a 6-year-old iMac with an i5 processor and just upgraded RAM from 8 to 32 Meg. I use it for photography and some video. It works amazingly well. Like you said, if you need to upgrade then do it, it will be good for years to come. However, I am still interested to see what comes next.

This is my next for all the reasons you mentioned. Some of the software is slow to update on Windows, let alone Mac OS, so it’ll probably be a minute before they transition to Apple silicon.

Hi, I was planning to buy an iMac but cannot decide which one to go for ... 21.5inch (top end variant without further upgrades) or the new 27 inch base model? I would be using it primarily for motion graphics, some 4k video editing and compositing as well as 3D modelling and rendering... 21 inch certainly suits my budget but I am not sure if it would be able to handle all these tasks... please suggest...

In 2013 I was choosing between an iMac and MacBook and picked up MacBook Pro for the mobility. In 2020 I do not bring my MacBook anywhere actually, because basically everything I need to do on the go can be done on my iPhone. And you made me think that maybe it's time for the first iMac in my house. Thank you so much!

I've given this issue some thought over the years. We all have different needs, of course. I do a lot of photo editing and was in need of a new computer. I mostly work at home but thought it would be great to have the option to bring the computer with me. But, I'm going to want a big monitor. My take was that by the time I'd configure a pretty high end Macbook Pro with nice monitor, dock to plug external drives into, etc., it would be way more expensive than an iMac. And probably wouldn't perform as well. So I went with a 2019 iMac. I was going to buy a Macbook Air this spring to serve my needs when I do travel and want a laptop. My uses for laptop would be relatively undemanding. Given the pandemic I've been doing no travel so have not picked up an Air. I know folks doing lots of work in lots of places who need a relatively potent laptop. So if you don't need portability and have the space for a 27" iMac, I think it's the way to go.

If you aren’t on the road, get an iMac - I’ve used every Mac since the Mac II, cheese-graters, laptops, even the trash can. The 27” iMac is my fave by a mile - power, excellent screen, plenty of io, excellent value for money, (ok, for a Mac I mean!) It’s the best computer Apple ever made IMO. I hope the Apple silicon versions will be even better, But if you are on a budget, even the last few gens are awesome capable machines.

Quick question: when exporting a 4K H.264 video (through Media Encoder), can you still continue to edit in Premiere without any struggles/lags? If yes, just barely or easy-peasy? 🤔 Thinking about getting an iMac 2020 and an answer would help a lot with my decision. 😊

Tyler, I got a quick question. I'm a sudo photographer & I always rationalize myself to spec up to the top whenever I need to refresh my imacs. of course it bring me up to paying the top $. I run the latest PS & LR, working on average 40-50MP raw files. sometimes wonder if I really need these overkill machine... of course if we could all afford the best one, why not, but I really wanna approach in logical sense since I need to upgrade mine soon. what are you thoughts? I was told the 2020 iMac can't use another iMac as a display, is it true ? I am using thunderbolt 3 adapter and thunderbolt cable to connect the two but getting no reaction from my 2012 iMac when pressing command f2 , I’m not sure what to try next.

I bought 2 new 2020 iMac's, one for my office and one for music production at home. I love them! Screen is phenomenal as always with the 5K resolution, the RAM is fully user upgradable which I did on both and saved a lot of money. And it has enough ports to suit my needs. The new 24 inch iMac looks like a bad value so far.

i still have my imac 2011 and it's still doing a good job. I don't have any reason to upgrade because i have a tower i built up myself that is currently running windows 10. I spent more money customizing my own thing and STILL saved a lot of money. I just don't see any reason to upgrade the imacs. Now september - october is a great month to upgrade iphones. the phones will drop in prices

I currently have a 2015 iMac pro, which at 14 I'm obv very lucky to have, but as I now regularly do large projects in logic pro X, and am about to move to premiere pro, I really need an upgrade. Even when I'm using Imovie, if I make a change I have to wait a minute or two for it to render to I can actually watch what I just changed. And dont even let me get started on how many times logic pro x has crashed But... I'm 14 so you know dont have much money. I do have a paper round, however I really dont wanna spend over 2000 pounds (even that I'd a very big stretch). How much of an upgrade would a bass iMac 27 inch be? Is It worth just getting the 21 inch? Or should i say get the 27 inch and upgrade the ram and processor?

Hi, I’ve just purchased to 27” iMac last week, installed an extra 32GB RAM but find the fan constantly spinning!! And that happens when I’m running 4 to 5 safari tabs... surely this is not right?!? I haven’t tried Logic Pro yet but this would be a nightmare! I have the MacBook Pro and I’d need to be running heavy video editing before this happens! So far I’m really dissapointed in this machine 🙈
