What's cute about Nicole and Richard is that they LEGIT love each other. It's not a Peter/Lois or Homer/Marge situation. You never doubt the love between them
@yon527810 күн бұрын
Although that is true, it is shown in one episode that all it takes is one very heated argument for them to split up. To be fair, Rob was manipulating those events but still.
@plasticbandit10 күн бұрын
i get peter/lois since theirs is like no love there at all but i feel like homer/marge is your typical relationship with ups and downs. also some of their rough times is just a parody of another show or movie
@bluestreaker924210 күн бұрын
His dumbness is also rather charming because he's not COMPLETELY hopeless; like, dude's just out here trying his best. I mean, admit it, we've all had some dumb Richard moments in our life. But I mean...he has his moments of smartness and badassery, and dude almost wound up blowing up the universe 'cause he got a job because he wanted Nicole to be proud of him, sooo...like I said, he's just trying his best. Richard is genuinely one of my favorite cartoon dads because he's just an absolute vibe. XD
@mckenzie.latham9110 күн бұрын
Richard in the early first season is far more sinister with his laziness, using it to his advantage knowingly but after season 2 he is shown more and more to be just someone who was sabotaged by his own mother and became incapable of taking care of himself.
@memecliparchives225410 күн бұрын
@@mckenzie.latham91That applies to every character. In Season 1, everyone is a subpar stereotype. Season 2 tried to make them more than that slowly. Season 3 onwards finally gave them more depth than nobody expecred.

I'm never going to forget one scene where in the background in the cafeteria, you see a character, who's a hotdog, tonging a regular hotdog while it's half way in his mouth non stop. You don't see him eat it. Just rubbing his tongue all round it.

The 2 "toys" the neighbor was playing with at 25:57 were actual real toys that were banned. 1 was a toy gun, called the "Austin Magic Pistol" that used an actual explosive chemical reaction, calcium carbide, with water to make it go off. And the other was a 100% toy about splitting atoms. Called the Gilbert U-238 Atomic Energy Lab. It came with a Geiger counter and uranium ore.
@bluestreaker924210 күн бұрын
5:27 So funny thing, they actually do address that he, Larry, literally works everywhere; one time as a joke where Gumball & Darwin are rattling off job titles for places they could work and every one they mention Larry walks by, to the point it's like Pikmin where it's multiples of him with different outfits on-screen. Second time I recall was the whole town devolving in to a full-on Mad Max parody when Larry quits his job (as in all of them XD). Heh, but yeah, I've regularly described this show as being like the Gen Z Monty Python; the early seasons are already chaotic as it is, but later seasons just get crazier and crazier. The self-awareness of the show is just next-level hilarious. I mean you literally have an episode where the dad getting a job brings about the end of the universe (S2, E8: "The Job"), and it's deadass the craziest episode of the show; you can tell the animators had a BLAST with that episode! XD
@frostfang110 күн бұрын
Oh I love that description "Gen z Monty python". I always enjoy the clips I've seen, but the few episodes I've watched, it's a *lot* all at once. So much energy. I wish I could have watched it as a kid, I would have loved it.
@bluestreaker924210 күн бұрын
@@frostfang1 I watched it when it first came out back in 2011 (I am now over 30 years old XD) and yeah, can confirm, even in its early episodes, it's a LOOOT! But I don't mean that in a bad way in the slightest. It has some of the tightest writing and comedic timing of just about any show, never mind cartoon, I've ever seen; much like Monty Python's myriad comedy skits, it knows how to inject just the right amount of annoying to be endearing, and has a firm grasp on the concept of escalation from a simple premise to achieve maximum hilarity. It's why the titles are always just two words: sometimes something as simple as "The Job" tells you all you need to know about what kinda crazy to expect, but at the same time...NOT expect. It's the sorta show that brilliantly plays with your expectations like a 4th-dimensional fiddle. Add to the fact they're able to do so much with just under 11-minute blocks of time speaks volumes to the raw unbridled talent of the writers, the animators, the sound designers, the set designers, etc., etc. so on and so forth. I wouldn't be surprised if Cartoon-Network's "Cartoon City" bumpers in the early-mid-00's was the main inspiration for the art direction for the setting. I could go on, but yeah, this show is Comedy Gold... Which...reminds me... Scotty SO needs to do a react to "Out of Context Chowder" if he hasn't already; that show...no amount of context can save you... >;)
@frostfang110 күн бұрын
@bluestreaker9242 oh gawd chowder. That's another one I thought had some potential, but at the time I could not get through it lol. Gumballs definitely a gem... I think I just need to be in the right headspace for that... or probably just high as a kite to fully enjoy it the way I want to. It feels adhd AF, and I love how they have crafted it. But maybe I'm holding out a little knowing I have something to look forward to.
@bluestreaker924210 күн бұрын
@@frostfang1 Credit where due, Chowder is weird, to put it MILDLY, but it's at least DELIGHTFULLY weird; it knows what it is and just sorta...rolls with it. Both are brilliantly self-aware; I mean there's an episode of Gumball that absolutely got me the first time I saw it because...well...it was at a time where TVs were having serious signal problems that made some genuine mosaic nightmare fuel. I'm kinda surprised that episode didn't make the compilation of "Out of Context Gumball" clips. It is...wild! Season 4, Episode 24 "The Signal", if you're curious. :3

You're forgetting about that one episode about who had the worst day ever which lead to Larry quitting ALL of his jobs. Him quitting literally led the world to the brink of Mad Max apocalypse.

That _was_ salt in that dispenser. Richard (big bunny dad) replaced the sugar with salt and effectively sparked Gumball and Darwin starting a prank war with him. This show was truly wild. A few of my favorite episodes are the one that emulates Don't Hug Me I'm Scared, the one where all the consequences from previous episodes all come back to bite them, and the one that straight up confronts their Chinese copycats.
