About to finish my 100th book of the year - inspired by Ariel's challenge - that book being Albatross is a full circle books unbound moment haha! (Also getting a copy of the albatross in the netherlands was quite a challenge 😅)

Congrats. I also finished my 100th book recently because of Ariel and I had the same issues getting Albatross in the Netherlands 😅 (though it wasn't my 100th book)

Realeen you should look into volunteering somewhere like an animal shelter or something so that you have a reason to get out of the house for a few hours that's productive. I work for an animal shelter in Texas and we have tons of wfh volunteers who love to come hang out with animals as a screen break that doesn't feel lazy or costs money to do 🥰

I support Ariel in doing individual talks for specific books in a reel or individual video, so we can listen to all the talk without feeling restricted due to the podcast!

Ariel, you’re so real for wanting a TFIOS with John’s signature in GREEN! When The Anthropocene Reviewed came out, my pre-order was mistakenly cancelled, so I went to buy a copy in stores. I checked all of the copies there and found a green one (!) but then I found a purple one with a swirl too. I think I stood at the shelves for 5-10 minutes debating the merits of each. I went with the swirl.

I read Monsters: A Fan's Dilemma this a few months ago and it was a really great read, I also liked the fact she wasn't giving any answers and it was more just thought provoking mainly because I feel it's up to the person as a consumer to decide for themselves what feels right or wrong to continue consuming whether you feel the artist crossed a line and we shouldn't expect someone else to tell us and just give us the answer. There's so many people out there in this world that need other people to tell them what to believe rather than having your own mind and choice on a topic. I kind of think this is how dangerous things happen like Cults. After I read Monsters I actually dropped on another book in a charity shop with a sepia looking spine called "The Girl: A life in the shadow of Roman Polanski" by Samantha Giemer a memoir discussing her view of the rape, the case and speaking openly about the assumptions made over the years and how she was viewed as a very young girl and as an adult woman finally having her say. So might be one for Raeleen to check out with her love of memoirs and it tying in with her current read. 🤗

After hearing you guys talk about Monsters, I immediately borrowed the audiobook from my library and listened to the first 25% while working this afternoon. Then before heading home I ordered a copy from Thriftbooks because I already have so many lines I want to annotate!! Such a good rec! I’m really excited to hear what you guys have to say about it when you both finish. (Even if it’s a case of the Kat Dennings effect 😂)

I took last week off from work to prep for and enjoy American Thanksgiving, so today’s my first day back in the office and also the first day that there’s snow on the ground! This episode is exactly the cozy, happy vibes that I need to get up and start getting ready this morning! Welcome back, Reuben 💛

Hi Raeleen, I'm a newer listener/viewer so I'm not sure if you already read or hauled this book but I recommend Run Toward the Danger by Sarah Polley, if you are looking for "industry" related memoirs. She speaks about her hollywood experience, her family and a head injury. It is very well written.

I was going to recommend that one too! And also, Justine Bateman's "Fame: the hijacking of reality"... very interesting, and short! 😁

I say this with love, but I do hope Ariel tested for COVID. COVID is a huge threat still, and there are things you can do when infected that help prevent things like long COVID, so it's important to know. It's also flu season, so there is that. Both these diseases are airborne, so the best way to prevent this from happening again is to wear a good quality mask in indoor public spaces, like public transport and stores. Even if you do socialize with friends and stuff without a mask, using it everywhere else indoors will already minimise the risk. Yeah, maybe it's worth it to get sick in order to go to a friends birthday, but is it worth it to get sick to go to the supermarket or the hardware store? Just wearing a mask sometimes, even if not always, really already helps. And makes public spaces safer for disabled people! Also, I think it's great that Ariel isolated so she didn't get her parents sick! That's great!! Again, I say this with lots of love, not judgement ! Love you both all the way from Portugal! 🥰

Roman p....I am having a similar problem because of our horrifying election. I question the county I live in and who I want to do business with. Who sold out the women of the world and still want my business. No way jose. My county did vote badly an we have always been 50/50. Red necks not liking liberals. I understand the authors struggle.
