On the topic of using materials outside of their labels, I'll just give a classic example that I also heard from GTWScar: stairs. Universally, even minecraft itself uses stairs as roof materials. But they're not roof blocks, they're stair blocks. If taken literally we should only use these blocks to go up and down things. But that's where I think the beauty of minecraft is, it's to see a stair block and see a roof or see a mangrove log and see a slab of meat. It's minecraft's nature to tap into our imagination to make blocks more than they are that really makes this game so special.
