I think the soldiers at the gate were assessing them, the ratio of two blokes (one who looked like he could take care himself) and two girls was not what they wanted. They were waiting for an opportunity to make the group more vulnerable

Dude seriously you need to watch The Fly (80s remake) by David Cronenberg !!!! If you say you're a horror movie fan then this is the film to watch. Jeff Goldblum deserved an Oscar for his performance. Won an Oscar for makeup and several other awards for best sci-fi horror and best actor. Absolutely brilliant film. I will definitely become a patron to watch your full reaction when you eventually watch it 😊

It's always monkeys because those are the animals they do a lot of scientific experiments on. Also, becuase they are human-like, we empathize more with them...which is good for plucking heart strings and terror in movies. That being said...I love this movie. It's brilliant as hell. Great casting, atmosphere and writing.

Even 28 Weeks Later Got it right to a degree with that opening situation. People in a farm house with the windows covered, trying to make their food last. Pretty sure that inspired season 1 & 2 of The Walking Dead a few years later, when that show was cool & not completely stupid.

28 Weeks Later is worth a watch I think, if only for the incredible opening scene. But it's a very different film. Much more Hollywood, bigger budget, mid-2000s zombie action. Although with a surprising number of now big name actors popping up.

One of my favourite films. Seen it about ten times and from the first time I was just captivated by the atmosphere of it. That scene of empty London with the music is so haunting. They apparently shut down a whole section of central London for like two hours to shoot it, which is crazy. 28 Weeks Later is not as good imo but worth a watch. If you haven’t watched it yet you should see Shaun of the Dead, another British take on the zombie genre which is absolutely hilarious.

It's when he has that 1 on 1 talk with the commander, and the commander says "all I see is people killing people" Jim realizes that he can be just as dangerous as the infected. There is an alternative ending to this movie but Danny Boyle felt it was way too depressing, after putting the audience through the rest of the film. Great choice though. Although they are technically infected and not zombies, it did reboot the genre. Do check out 28 Weeks Later. A different feel to 28 Days but still a great movie ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

They also aren’t reanimated with African magic. Which is what makes them a zombie. Almost everything you consider a “zombie” is NOT a zombie. So considering all the bullshit gatekeepers like you try to put up, there are NO modern zombie movies. There’s a couple from the fifties and maybe a blackspoitation movie or two. That’s it.

28 weeks later is a great sequel. You should definitely check it out next. The Rage Virus definitely gave a new view and take on the zombie genre even though the infected weren’t really zombies, just ppl locked in a murderous state with their only purpose was to kill and infect others. You should watch The Girl with all the gifts (2016). It’s a UK horror film about a zombie apocalypse. Great horror film with a great cast. And if you want a cheesy great 80’s zombie film, you should watch The Return of the Living Dead (1985), directed by Dan O’Bannon who worked on Alien with Ridley Scott.

So, what's up with the camerawork in this movie? This was the early 00's and digital video cameras had just become accessible, small and cheap. (relatively speaking) This opened up a lot of possibility to make low budget films. Not just because the camera itself is cheap, but you can cut out the cost of physical film and development, copying, distributing etc. Editing can be done on a home computer, instead of spending long hours with physical film in a cutting room. Working with a light handheld camera also made it very fast to set up and film scenes in an urban enviroment, where you otherwise couldn't film at all, or it would be a major project to do so. The camera used was not bad for it's time, but it has a very "digital" look. It doesn't even come close to your ordinary cell phone camera today. "Shaky cam" was a big thing back then, where the cameraman would run and jump with the actors in action-filled scenes. This style was very popular for a few years. In some films it was done really well, like in 28 days, but many filmmakers over-used the technique even when there were no point to it, and shaky cam seem very outdated today. I think the raw style of filming was also inspired by the avant-garde style of films of the "Dogma 95" movement in the late 90's, wich embraced low burget film making. (28 days is not a "dogma 95" film by any means, but they showed that you could make great films even outside of hollywood conventions)

The only thing I dislike in this movie is the main girl killing her friend at the beginning. He got into the room and had time to check his wound. The infection takes like 30 seconds on average so there was basically no chance at all he was infected. Then later when there like a 1000 times higher chance that the main guy is infected she hesitates, and then kisses him even though he probably has infected blood on him. She just seems thoroughly unintelligent and overly emotional to me. She could have turned and by process of elimination killed him and the girl in the process.

I can't say I have any emotional investment in the argument, and people are going to call it what they will, but I will put out there that a zombie is a dead person reanimatred. Thats just the definition. 28 Days and World War Z are Infected movie not zombies because there is no "death stage" in the cycle. Directly from human to raging beast. Just sayin'. Peace.
