28 Days Later is a pretty solid zombie flick that a lot of people missed because they confused it with that Sandra Bullock alcoholism movie. Anyway, it has sins, so we counted them.
Thursday: recent action sins.
Remember, no movie is without sin! Which movie's sins should we expose next?!

So they filmed the opening to this super early in the morning and held all the traffic that was going into London just out of shot, basically. Including my dad, who was in his car, watching Cillian Murphy (who was basically unknown at that point) crossing the bridge being filmed. Pretty cool. "If this one's infected then why isn't it re-animated?" They're not zombies. They've got a virus that makes you uncontrollably angry. It doesn't re-animate the dead, it doesn't necessitate headshots, and it doesn't make you want to eat people. There's a scene in the sequel wherein a character gets infected and immediately just beats someone to death, no eating.

Brandon Rhodes I did think that too when I saw it - then I thought most of those styles of basket could still catch a small amount of water in the bottom. If they’re desperate I assume they’d use any container at their disposal, even those with a very limited holding capacity. This is an assumption on my part though, because I couldn’t really see the bottoms of the baskets to tell where the holes began.

It's even referenced in the commentary. They assumed one hundred buckets would be enough, but when they turned up to film, it looked pathetic so they sent the runners out to get any containers they could get their hands on... and they did! In the end they decided it was better for the roof to look full than for it to make sense. =P

Which is the same reason only Great Britain was infected. Spreading too fast like that means planes wouldn't be able to carry anyone to other countries, because the crew and passengers would get infected. Even if the pilots were safe in the cockpit, they'd likely ditch the plane because their only way out is through the infected. It's a self defeating, and extremely localized virus because of its speed. The REALLY scary viruses will have an incubation period of a couple of days at the very least, and can spread globally from travel. It has been suggested that the Rage Virus in 28 Days Later might have been augmented with a chemical as a delivery mechanism which, given enough viral load, could spread throughout the body in a few heartbeats, though the length of time for incubation would likely be shortened to a few hours to a day at most.

Pay attention; murder hornets are a whole different breed of bastards from Asia that have such potent venom that a single sting can make your entire arm swell up in minutes and feels like hellfire in your veins. A single sting from a regular hornet will cause some moderate localized pain and swelling but, unless you're allergic, not much worse than an average bee sting. Murder hornets also have a nasty tendency to invade honey bee hives, brutally murder the inhabitants by decapitating them then taking over the hive for their own pupa. On average, only a dozen murder hornets can utterly devastate an established honey bee hive in about an hour.

Query: Are sins tabulated chronologically? Because many of the the sins that are question based ( why aren't zombies heading towards shouting man in London for example) get plausible answers later in the movie. It's not a sin if an explanation is found at any point in the movie timeline. It's because CinemaSins only watch it once and write down the "sins" as they see them on that run through. I'm sure this has already been said 1.5 million times, but the "awaking from coma in hospital, to stumble out confusedly into a deserted, post-apocalyptic London" is lifted from the great novel "Day of the Triffids"...very similar type of story, only with the role of zombies playes by bioengineered, carnivorous plants capable of locomotion (much scarier than it sounds). Oh; and a majority of the population is left blind after staring up at what was thought to be a 'meteor shower' as all of this kicked off, leaving them even more susceptible to the Triffids attacks. Again, much more effective than I'm sure it sounds

Half of these sins are you missing the point of some of the director's choices. Jim and Selena aren't suspicious of Frank because he saved their lives right in the nick of time. Once you witness that much rage at once, you need some levity. Frank also ends up dying later. The entire movie is about how people treat each other and the necessity of a balance between kindness and anger. Jim's kindness gets him far throughout the movie but his anger saves him against the military (the original ending, he ends up dead, cementing the tragedy of his unrelenting kindness, but the studio didn't like that). He uses his anger against the troops as a defense against false kindness, and then uses his catchphrase "Hello" to the plane, because rage victims don't greet you. It's simple yet elegant writing. You need both at the right time.

@Chris Becker - that's the one I was thinking of :) Triffids has the waking up in hospital not knowing a catastrophe has happened, but the people aren't gone - there's plenty of them, and mostly harmless, just all blinded. Quiet Earth has the waking up (albeit at home) not knowing there's been an "event" and it also has the "everyone's gone" aspect; walking the deserted city looking for anyone else. Still amuses me that the protagonist in Quiet Earth takes advantage of the fact that he suddenly has the planet to himself to indulge in some serious cross-dressing! I can't really imagine a US or even UK film going there, but New Zealand film goes there :)
@anonb4632

Yes, it's a total rip off. I always felt that it was a cop out on the part of John Wyndham - not everyone would go blind watching meteors, many would not even watch. Certainly not alcoholics and drug addicts.
@blatherskite3009
@blatherskite3009 4 жыл бұрын
True. Wyndham's premise in Day of the Triffids doesn't really stand up to scrutiny. It's highly unlikely - even in the era it was written - that virtually *everyone* would turn out to watch the meteors. The Quiet Earth is more plausible in that regard, with a far more exact and difficult-to-replicate set of circumstances required to survive the event - which was itself pretty much ripped off wholesale for The Langoliers, but that's another story :)

One main reason will be perishables meats and dairy rotting and even if you toss it out youll have a mound of rotting stuff close by to deal with plus its still in a relatively urban area where theres more chances of infected showing up plus plus they were trying to find other people so you cant just wait forever and finally you know itll be there so you can always return

The ultimate sin here is that the end bit of music, "In the house, in a heartbeat" was later used by the same composer in Kickass. Why didn't John Williams think about doing that, using something like the Jaws theme in Star Wars? If you said "Because it's a dumb idea", you're right.

The DVD for 28 Days Later has an awesome cut scene for right before they take the cab into the tunnel. As they enter the tunnel the camera pans up and you see traffic going about like any normal day. One has to account too, for the rabid increased pace of physiologic demand on the body. The aggressive physical response would require a caloric load much greater than usual, as demonstrated by the increase caloric requirements of soldiers in sustained combat action. Thus, these Olympic style zombies must eat about three or four times normal to remain able to do what they do. Further, such tremendous physical activity, if not gradually acclimated, would likely induce actual damage to the zombie's body as muscle will break down, cause shutting down of kidneys and death from renal failure within days. While the movie is exciting, there is little possibility that such a phenomenon could occur given normal human physiology.
