28 gauge Dove Hunt 2020

This was a quick little shoot and only shot a little over a box of shells. But got to test my new Weatherby SA-08 Deluxe in 28 gauge which performed great.

I took my 28ga Remington 870 Wingmaster to Yuma this last Sept 1. It’s tough to hunt dove with it. I’m better using it for Quail, Grey Squirrel and cottontail rabbit. But it was fun and EXPEN$$$IVE to shoot 28 bore. But today, I found 6 boxes of Remington 7.5 high brass 28ga at Big-5 on clearance sale of $11 per box of 25! I took all 6 boxes on the shelf. Score!!!! I’ll never use 28 ga for dove again because of the price and because it’s harder to hit dove because I suck, when 12ga is hard enough. But during these tough ammo times, I’m always on the prowl for ammo deals. I was shocked I found a clearance sale of Remington “Long Range 7.5 shot 28 ga” this afternoon.

Nice score! It seems like 28 gauge shells are actually the only thing you can find on the shelves. I'd love to get a hold of a 28 gauge WM, but the prices on the Remingtons are out of control. I'll probably get a break open for my next 28 gauge.

@@pc8649 For years I wanted an over/under 28 bore but again, the ammo for it is insanely expensive. So I got the next best thing and that was a 20 O/U Browning Citori. I love it. My 28ga is. Remington 870 Wingmaster. I love it for cottontail and grey squirrel in the Forrest.

Are the dove wild?

Yes, but Eurasian Collard doves stay close to people.

Yes of course. Eurasian dove (aka: “collard dove”) are larger than white wing or mourning dove and you can hunt them year round. They are an invasive species from china, over 100 years ago but are good eats.

@@pc8649 are you giving them some lead at that distance ? If you are how much lead?

A few feet at least for the longer shots, but a lot of these are under 30 yards so not much lead needed.
