@@ReviewThisThing I will have one before next season if that tells you anything!! I’m shooting Indian creeks in my 20 and 12 gauges, and this 28 still looks to maintain TSS density better then both of them! Of course run the .410 for my little one and still am impressed with it.

Oil and shoot normally for a little break-in. Work the sear assembly against all camming points, hammer "boosting" being the second step but be careful, use vaseline or bullet lube (whatever your cast bullet secret recipe is, just use it) on the sear to fire and boost a little more. The idea is for you to follow any tactile "waller" and smooth it out a bit so you don't have weirder wear patterns later, nothing isn't off axis if you look hard enough. Then polish everything that's shown a wear pattern with kratex, do it very minimally. Reassemble and do all the oil and vaseline break-in a bit longer. Next time you tear it down, mirror shine stuff you can reach, possibly reprofile with a file too. ALMOST NEVER USE WEAKER SPRINGS, polish like glass and fit like a glove, keep sear tension so it's consistent and drop safe. If anything I usually use heavier springs and still have a reduced weight. Kratex is amazing for tool and die polishing and hand fitting. You can get by with a wimpy dremel, mandrel, and a handful of kratex bits.

Have you done much with conventional lead shot? Maybe not on videos due to sponsorship and market trends pushing what's hot, but I assume you do some recreational stuff still. My recreational stuff is cheap 12 gauge clay and conventional turkey loads, tweak the barrel and choke for pattern consistency and density to a point... I've not ever seen patterns like this from anything but a trap beast using very specific handloads. How does that 28 gauge pattern without TSS, because this TSS footage is very good, maybe the best at 40 yards in all your videos I've watched. Is 28 gauge anything like this generally? I've always blown off 16 and 28 for the popular stuff, what did I miss?

@Adrian and Robbie, thank you for all the great content! I saw your post titled, "What an Introduction to Turkey Hunting for an 11 Year Old!!" My kids have started to show an interest in hunting and my 10 year old shot a nice hog here in Texas with a .243. He has started asking about turkey hunting. He is very thin and small framed, not like dad...hummmm....well anyway I was thinking of starting him on the Stevens 301 .410, but thought he might be able to handle the Mossberg SA28 and the extra distance and pellet count would be helpful. In your post you talk about the kiddo using a 20 gauge. I'm kinda at a loss as to where to start him, I want to set him up for the best chance at success. Any advice? Also, I would LOVE to see a series of videos on Youth guns/equipment and actually anything oriented at family hunting. I'm trying to build a hunting tradition with my family and hopefully I'll be successful. Thank you again for all the great video and content! Appreciate y'all!

Thank you for watching! That article was actually written by a friend of ours, and his son still loves hunting! The .410 is awesome. I know a lot of grown men who hunt with a .410. We reviewed the Mossberg 500 .410 - it's a pump action, and it's great. The SA 28 is amazing, of course. It does still have some kick, depending on ammo, but not as much as a 20 gauge. I would almost say the 28 gauge is the sweet spot for TSS and turkey hunting. Next year I'm going to be doing some work on lighter loads for less recoil in the 28, but haven't done it yet. The .410 will definitely have less recoil, but the 28 has a lot of more shot down range. So...did that help at all? 😄
@karlkiessling3785
@karlkiessling3785 29 күн бұрын
@ReviewThisThing sure does! Message heard liad and clear buy all 3 guns, you never have too many 😂. All kidding aside, I think I know what Ill do. Im going to see if i can borrow a .410 and a 28 and let him shoot a shell from both to see how it feels. If the 28 is a tolerable and co trouble guage we'll go that route ( keep in mind how small he is). If not we'll stick with the .410. Thank you for letting me bend your ear. 😊
@ReviewThisThing
@ReviewThisThing 29 күн бұрын
@karlkiessling3785 absolutely! Make sure you shoot TSS if that’s what you’re going to hunt with. The recoil is a lot more on those loads than target loads.

Watched your video pattern ing the new Mossberg SA28 Turkey Tactical. You mentioned in the video about doing a future video testing different chokes for that particular gun. This leads me to my question: have you acquired any chokes for that gun & if so have you test fit them to see if in fact they fit? I recently purchased the same shotgun & have tried 2 different Carlson's Choke Tubes for it: 1st: BERETTA BENELLI MOBIL EXTENDED TURKEY CHOKE TUBES #15549 2nd:HUGLU 28 GAUGE EXTENDED TURKEY CHOKE TUBES #03018. Neither one would thread. Again I'm curious to know if you have any aftermarket chokes tubes & have attempted to install them? Thanks

@@ReviewThisThing do you happen to know the model numbers of those particular chokes? This was Mossbergs reply when I inquired about those issue: Good morning. The thread pattern told to us by the manufacturer is the Beretta and Benelli. Third party items not fitting on the gun isn't something we can help with, especially if the choke the gun came with is functional. You can try cleaning the threads of the gun and the choke, but would not force it, and strip the threads. If you wanted to send the barrel in for inspection, our techs can look at it, but we can't install or function test third party items. Thank you. Sincerely, Customer Service Team O.F. Couldn’t help but notice that the bolt only locked back on the first 2 shots, did you load more rounds in the tube on the other shots? I am in the process of researching everything I can find on the sa-28 and tss right now, my wife got one 2 weeks ago and while patterning I only loaded one round at a time and the bolt would only lock back occasionally. I didn’t think much of it and only realized there was a problem when she shot her first Tom with it a few days ago and it hung open with the second round on the carrier. Again I thought it was just bad luck, but it happened again the next day on her second gobbler! Luckily she made great shots and there was no need for a follow up shot. Very interested to hear your experience with the gun and tss, I am shooting 3 of the same ammo from your video and all have the issue. Thanks
@ReviewThisThing
@ReviewThisThing Жыл бұрын
I noticed that as well on a couple of loads. I haven’t tried multiple rounds yet. I will tell you that I did another ammo test with a Trulock choke, and the bolt locked back on all of them. I’m not sure how that might make a difference, but we’ve got 3 other chokes to test out, so we’ll see how they do. I’ll let you know what I find.

I think so. Whatever that constriction is, I’d find one that is a touch more open like 10 thousandths bigger, if I was a betting man I’d say that would get the heavier loads “tighter”
