Part 2 of this series was recorded at the south end of the Norfolk Southern Brosnan Yard. Besides several interesting trains and engines, it also exhibits yard operations. [© 2016 MBMARS Productions. Exclusive rights for KZbin channel "mbmars01" only.]

what are those half looking things behind the SD40 and what are those used for?

They're slugs, locomotives with no diesel engines. They have traction motors and receive electrical power from the single unit with the engine. At low speeds, pulling force is more important than power, and so slugs are often used in rail yards where long strings of cars are repeatedly started and moved at low speeds.

Great video,,,2 questions for you, 1) What kind of camera are you using for your video's? and 2) Is "inside the web" on RR property?

Thank you! 1) It's a Panasonic camcorder, HC-V550. 2) No! It refers to Macon in general, because various NS districts come together in this town.

+TheBamaguy334 Thank you! These helper engines are called "slugs". It has motor-driven trucks but doesn't provide its own power, i.e., it cannot be used without a lead unit.

+TheDolphins43 He lends the engineer an eye when the train goes in reverse, and he also throws the switches if necessary.

That's the conductor. They were probably setting out some defective cars before leaving the terminal at the yardmaster's request. Once they complete this task they rejoin the train and they're ready to begin their trip. Not a favorite thing among crews. They normally like to board the train and just head out. By the way I am a locomotive electrician for Norfolk Southern. Enjoy your videos
