Good Review! I haven't used LRAB , But, I shot an Elk and a mule deer both over 400 yds with Nosler AB with great terminal performance with 300 WSM

Your target medium is not near as tough as an elk... all the bullets ive collected from elk were similar to your 100 yard example. This was at or beyond 500 yard shots.

I sort the 175g LRAB by ogive length, seat .003 within the lands, and they shoot very tiny groups!

For a nonres coming from east of the Mississippi An average non guided elk hunt cost is in the $2k'3k+ range if you can maintain an extreamly tight budget A semi guided elk hunt is closer if not over $3k-$4k A fully guided bull elk hunt to a quality unit with a well regarded outfitter is north of $7k to $10k+ these days Spending $100-$130 on the one piece of equipment that is in a 4 way tie IMO for your most important of all your equipment of your boots your scope your rifle your optics and your bullet are are tied for the most important piece of equipment spending money on what will almost certainly be one of the cheapest must have items at +/- $130 is utterly foolish to concern yourself for a dollar amount that will equal to less than 0.05-0.001% of the total cost of your hunt and nothing is more important to your success or failure on a hunt and especially a bull elk hunt than your bullet. I did a crap ton of my own bullet testing of cup and core bullets from Hornady, Sierra, and Speer vs bonded bullets from Hornady and Nosler shot into 30" of newspaper taped securly but not tightly soaked in water for 3 days then allowed to drain for 1 day I placed a 1/2 sheet of PL in front of the box that held the newspaper and then a section of heavy thick shag rug in front of that Shot the .338/225 grain version of every bullet into the test box per my crono av/mv was 2870-2885 out of my 24" M700 at 75 yards the incident of cup and core separation was IMO unacceptable Although the bonded bullets lost 50-60% of their original weight they did mushroom excellent and remained intact All I hunt with now is NAB

I am a fan of both the Accubond and ABLR. The ABLR as stated by Nosler is for long-range hunting and starts to work best around the 500-yard plus range. Close range also is devastating but high loss of mass due to its thinner bonded outer metal. I've used ABLR at 85 yards to 500 on animals. It's a great bullet for its intent but many hunters likely don't need it. It's a Long Range bullet, as you state. I am a fan of the Accubond, ABLR, and Federal Terminal Ascent out of my 28 Nosler. I don't think people understand what a laser this cartridge is. I will say I ignore ft lbs as energy is not a killing unit of measure. Expansion based upon speed and construction are. The ABLR does what it's advertised to do, and does that extremely well. Whether its the choice for a hunter of course depends on their needs and hunting style. Great work - these videos you do are so useful IMO to so many.

I recently bought some nosler accubonds 6.5, 140s and planning on reloading them into a 6.5-300 wby, I wonder how they will do with that kind of velocity gonna be like 3100 at muzzle. Should look close to the 28 nosler test perhaps

I acquired some of these Nosler Accubond long range bullets in the 150 grain for my 280AI to make a hunting load for it I figured that this weight of bullets would give it plenty of velocity for it and balance out

🕵️‍♂️ I, first, want to answer your question on Why the Nosler ABLR and Not the ELD-X! Beyond what you elaborated upon, if you watch "Simple Minded Fella's" testing of these bullets into ballistics gel (a better way of understanding their performance), what you will see is that the Nosler ABLR bullet will begin it's large wound cavity at the 6" mark and extend 8" to 12" (depending upon caliber used) of it's dump in energy, before exiting the animal! Out of a 30-06, the 168 grain Nosler ABLR will penetrate 30" of ballistics gel (enough to go through an elk) while dumping the energy right in the center of the vitals (creating a 4" wide wound cavity about 10" long)! You would never see (understand) that with your type of test! This is exactly the kind of performance that you want on an elk, especially for a broadside shot! It should Also be Noted that it was at a velocity of 1,800 ft/s that he obtained these results in the 30-06 (though he tested it with the 308 Winchester and other calibers)! Even though Nosler rates this bullet down to 1,300 ft/s, he found that it would not perform well under 1,800 ft/s (often tumbling too)! You may want to test the 155 grain Terminal Ascent bullet out of your 270 wsm next, as it is the same length as that 165 grain Nosler ABLR bullet that you tested? I don't know if it will stabalize, however, because it doesn't have a plastic tip (so the bullets center of mass will be different)? 🤷‍♂️

So you want me to run a .284 diameter bullet through a .277 diameter cartridge/barrel..? The only TA I could run through the 270 WSM is the 136gr
@ronlowney4700
@ronlowney4700 Жыл бұрын
🤣 No! On page #52 of the 2023 Federal Catalogue they Now have a 155 grain 0.277 Terminal Ascent bullet (not just the 136 grainer)! It has a similar Ballistics Coefficient (B C. = 0.585) as the 7mm 155 grain bullet (B.C. = 0.586) and in the same exact length as the 165 grain Nosler ABLR bullet that you just shot out of your 270 wsm (1.510" in length)! I don't know how easy it will be to find them, but the Federal Catalogue says that they are making them in 2023! 😜

🤔 Well, at least you know that they are making them now (Federal May Be Having Some Supply Chain Issues Too?)! 😜 It should be a fine bullet option for you! 🙂 Meanwhile, here is another "New" Bullet for you to try out of your 270 wsm: The 140 grain Badlands Bulldozer-2 bullet (B.C. of 0.650)! And, Who says that the 270 doesn't have any high B.C. Bullets? 😂 I would also tell you about the 136 grain 0.277 Lost River Ballistics J-36 bullet (B.C. of 0.650) that I've used, but the Factory is currently not selling to the General Public! I am not sure if it is because they are shut down because of supply chain issues or if they are just trying to fulfill all of their military contracts? Mabey they are loading that in 277 Sig Fury Ammunition for the military? Anyway, the Badlands Bulldozer-2 is for sale and "Simple Minded Fella" says that he is going to be hunting with it come fall! Happy Hunting! 🍻

Out of a 26" factory barrel on a Browning A-Bolt 7mm Rem Mag rifle I've loaded 150 grain Nosler Ballistic Tips with 63.0 grains IMR4350 chrony'd at 3250 fps. No pressure signs, Nosler manual max load. A lot of factory loaded 7mm Rem Mag are way under loaded. There are other guys loading way past the lawyer proof loads getting velocities hard to believe. It takes a little searching to find the forums. What about a properly loaded 7mm Rem Ultra Mag? Any of these chambers can be cut by hand by yourself to lengthen the throat to seat the bullets longer. It's only magazine length limitin you. The only real advantage to the PRC rounds is their brass is shorter so long seated bullets fit in the factory Mag lengths. It's simple to lengthen any magazine in bolt actions so the PRC advantage becomes moot. Hornady has been successful at targeting a new generation of shooters because the newbies don't yet know it's all been done before.

The five bullets I've pulled out of elk, all found on the far side skin. I feel they are perfect for deer sized game but just not tough enough for elk... atleast for less than desired points of impact... you hit one in the heart and it's game over but if you hit a bunch of muscle especially at close range and you might not find that elk... just want people to know real world results and not be shocked or upset to find out the hard way... not knocking them at all! They shoot amazing! Just an example and explanation of what they really do in the field.
