280 Ackley Improved - More Load Development And Taking It Out To Distance

Day two and three of load development. I am pretty sure I found my load and the barrel has finished speeding up, settling at 2919 fps with the Berger 175gr. Elite Hunter. The rifle is a pleasure to shoot, with very minimal recoil. I can spot all my hits or misses with all the muzzle brakes that I have tried. ​@@bcextremeoutdoorsman Try 57.5 grains of IMR 4350 with the Nosler 150 BT. My 26 inch barrel Cooper mod 52 drives nails with that load.👍 I took a small 6 point buck @ 412 yards.

Nice, I have the same build. Gunwerks GBR action(only long action I could find during covid) ibi carbon hunter barrel(280 ai) trigger tech, same MDT chassis, Leopold VX3i. LRP scope. I just picked up from MDT the 3 round poly mag cuts weight and profile. Just working on load development.I like that muzzle brake

I have a old Remington 721 that in a 30-06 and it doesn’t shoot good so I have decided and ordered a 280 AI short chambered barrel from Shilens and I will get a finish reamer and chamber it myself and build one I think it will be a fun project

My load: 175g Nosler LRAB(sorted by ogive length)seated to within .003 of the lands. 56.0g of IMR 7828 and the federal 210 was the only primer that would put all the bullets in a single bullet hole, 27" X caliber barrel, 9T, Gentry muzzle break, Non trued Rem 700 in a Laminate stock. This load massacres deer from up close to way out there from all angles. I shoot off of a Rifle rest, not a bi pod with Rear bunny bag.

The 280 AI is interesting, I am thinking about getting into the 280 AI. I have a lot of .270 Win, 280 Rem, and 30.06 once fired brass.

Rl 26 is what my 6.5 x06 likes w 140 what’s cool bc is I can drop to 95 Hornady v max s w rl 17 & 4350 drills 120s 3000 fps the 95 are 3300 or 160 s which I don’t shoot but in the Swede but it’s an option

Hi Justin, I am using 59.3grs. H4831 SC, velocities are 2919fps and my OAL with the hornady case comparator is 2.700” from O-Give to base. As everyone says this load is over max so work up slowly checking for pressure signs. Thanks for watching and the comment, take care.

@@justinjager9595 I'm at 2905fps with 168 Berger VLD with once fired Norma brass, bushing neck sized down 0.003 less than loaded round, then expanded over turn mandrel, 210M primer, 61.2 gr H4831SC, COL 3.429, B-O 2.7285, 24" 9 twist Bartlein #3 with a Defiance action. No pressure yet. Just loaded 3 more - 61.5, 61.7, 61.9 grains. Heading out to test soon.

Good shooting. I have been looking at the Savage Ultralite 280AI. And the Browning xbolt Speed 280AI. Browning is a 1@8 twist. I ended up going with the xbolt. It was listed as Speed 24 inch barrel model. I bought it come to find out. It was the Browning xbolt Speed Long Range model. 26 inch, not a 24-inch barrel. That's the reason i went with a Browning because of the longer barrel. The scopes i am looking at Leupold scopes. VX3 HD 4.5X14X40 CDS VX5 HD 3X15X44 CDS A Huskemaw 4x16x42mm Blue Diamond. I want to get my turret cut to my load. I am putting one together to shoot out to 600 yds. Adding a Timney 2 pd trigger to it also. I'm going to try 3 factory ammo Federal 168gr Berger Hornady 162 gr eld x Nosler 160 gr accubond. Picking up Berger 175 gr bullets. Hornady eld x 175 gr and Accubond 175gr LR up to load. Got to pick up 3 cans of imr 7828. That is the only camo xbolt 280AI i could find.

Hi, sounds like a great set up, a lot of great components. You should get some great speeds out of the 26” barrel. Another good option for powder is H4831SC if you can find any. But I’m sure you know that already. Great choices on glass as well. When you get it all together let me know how it shoots. @bcextremeoutdoorsman thank u. I like to watch other 280AI shooters. I might pick something up. I have h4831 and imr 4831. I wish i had a place, too, like that to shoot. Range i goto u can only shoot 200 yds.
