Never saw a roller bearing for an MG. Replaced the original graphite bearing in our MGA after about 50k miles of use. Must have been riding the clutch. Thanks for the heads up on this. Very interesting stuff.

Roller bearing works great in my 1971 MG Midget. HOWEVER I should note that this has a datsun 210 transmission which has a different clutch release mechanism designed to use a roller bearing.

John, I have always admired your contribution to the MG community, but I have to differ with you regarding using a roller bearing in an MGA. I have been using one for 32 years where in fact, last year I had to pull the engine for some work and upon examination of the roller bearing, it still looked like new. The thrust face was unmarked!

Well I've been using the MOSS roller bearing with the extra carbon ring on it for two years now. The earlier carbon one just broke up after a very low mileage. We'll see what happens. PS I did construct a pullback mechanism to prevent the hydraulics from constantly pressing on the bearing. Constant pressure got some Dutch MGB owners a roller bearing running hot and blue within just a few months. This aspect from the clutch mechanism was not mentioned in this JT video. Cable operated ones used on most cars do not press constantly

I won't be siting at red lights with my foot on the clutch any more in my Bugeye.

Just had a carbon release bearing replaced in my MGB after 8k miles, there was no carbon left, so was metal to metal, (and no, I do not ride the clutch, I know better) it was supposedly replaced when engine was replaced, (so possible it was from a bad batch) with a roller bearing as recommended by an MG restorer with over 30 years experience..

Thank you. Sadly I looked at this after I had fitted a roller bearing it failed in 2,000 miles. They are rubbish use the graphite ones every time.

I have to say what this Guy, John, is saying is absolutely correct.Unfortunately the Graphite release bearings available now don't seem to last any time at all. Is there a good quality Graphite bearing available?Don't really know what the answer is at the moment!!

Pretty intresting. Thanks for that information! I think i got a worn out Release bearing in my B but i´m not quite sure. The strange thing is that the clutch sounds and works fine when the engine is cold; as soon I drove a while and the car is in working temperature the clutch SOMETIMES makes nasty sounds while pushing the clutch. If somebody knows this kind of problem i would like his suggestion what i should check.

Just wondering if anyone with the Ford 5 speed conversion has had any problems with the roller through our bearing? The installation instruction recommend them and fork is also different.
