From another video on decluttering I also realized I was hanging on to a ballet barre for exercise that I hated setting up because it was hard to click into place and set up because of the bad design. (So random exercises equipment that you never use to donate or get rid of.) Then also your Kindle of electronic books you no longer want or need. I realized I had a lot of guilt for not following through on several how to books that I just wasn’t wanting to do like I thought. It was a huge relief to delete them.

Isn't it interesting what we humans do to ourselves sometimes? Guilt is a human emotion, no other species feel it. And yet, here we are creating guilt + shame surrounding letting things go that don't serve us... (myself too, I have been there!) It can be a challenging thing to do AND you feel amazing after the fact 🙌

Lions Club is my donation site. Locally they have a large space that the eye glasses are sorted with the prescription. I place the eye glasses in and extra eye glass case (I have accumulated many over the years) = donating 2 items. Before I donate I go back to the place I purchased them from to obtain the prescription and write it on sticky note & attach it around the ear piece to keep from getting lost.

One useful tip for random pillow cases; I usually take them on camping trips OR use them when any of us is ill and needs a pillow case change every day or so without having to change the whole set. An idea I have adopted is “anti procrastination day”. Make a list of all the little jobs and errands you’ve been putting off, then once a week (Wednesdays for me), pick at least, one task you’ve been procrastinating about. A phone call to someone, a thank you card, taking back returns or taking some of my unique donations to their new home. For some reason, it’s easier to just “get it done”, when you have a scheduled day to make these trips.

I do keep my previous smartphone when I buy a new one because I clear everything off of the old phone except for my music apps and Audible. If you are storing e-mails online, like photographs in the cloud then those servers will consume more energy the more that are being stored. If you store your own digital clutter you will need progressively larger drives which may need more energy and cost more to create. Personal data and photographs don't usually take up much room. Every document, photograph, all the music I purchased digitalised going back to the first 7" single in 1960 fits on one hard drive. Personal videos, commercial videos and work files are a different story.

This is a great list! I think it's also good to think about how to declutter these things responsibly, because it's easy to throw something out that really needs to be disposed of properly! I bring my old electronics, cords, remotes, batteries, etc. to Best Buy because hey have a free recycling program. I donate my old cell phones and glasses to a local non-profit. My local pharmacy has a bin where you can put expired/unused medications. I'm able to drop off old paint and cleaning supplies at a local hardware store. I use old socks as cleaning clothes. I slip one on my hand and it makes it pretty easy to clean window blinds and hard to clean little corners and stuff. Old bedding and linens in decent condition can usually be donated to a local animal shelter. If I have any makeup or travel sized/sample items that haven't been opened and haven't expired, I can give them to a local non-profit. Getting rid of stuff you don't need or what you don't have room/space for is all good and I'm all for it! I have had alot of furnitures, both antique and newer pieces, that I've sold. It's nice to "get rid of them" and clear the space in my home. I have some antique furnitures left that's from 1770 ish, real Gustavian, from Sweden, that I really stress over. I need to clear some other stuff out first before I can sort this out, but the day I sell them it'll be a happy day indeed..! I sold a large and heavy wardrobe/cabinet from 1896 earlier this year and I am so so happy I sold it, because let me tell you.. It was heavy (it took five large strong men to carry it into the apartment, it's a wonder it was sold with a profit and carried out at all).. And it took up alot of space. I'm happy though, that the new owners got to be happy about their new furniture.. They was so happy they sent me a picture of it the same day, in their living room. On that note, I have items I've had for years and years, that's been out for sale all this time.. Some items I have sold after several years, with a high profit. Sometimes I make 400 to 1000 €, but often less. I am more than happy every time I sell something and clears some more storage room in my home. I am patient and I'm willing to wait until the items are sold, mostly. Other times I run out of patience and I have to get rid of it for less than I would like to get. But in the end its all going to be either sold or given away. I like making money from the items so when I do make money it's all good and it's been worth the time and hassle. I can't say that about all of the things that I've sold or that I ended up with giving away of course, because let's face it, it's Alot of work, takes up time, energy and space. It can be a hassle to sell things and that's why I look forward to the day when I'm free from the shackles of owning and having to sell so much stuff. I would also like to say, for all of you out there that's had alot of items and furnitures you've sold and you've spent alot of time, effort and energy on selling.. You know that when I say I've learned a lot from this it's true. I am so much more intentional now and more cautious about what I use my money on and what I want and what I Need. Taking something into your home is something one tends to think more about after a larger decluttering where one sells most of it. I think I learned my lesson.

@@oneofakindlifestyle Yes.....do it! Be sure to add your home/auto/life/health insurance companies. Include your policy numbers because they'll ask for it when you call them. I also add the contact info of my best friend's closest neighbor just in case my bf doesn't answer the phone. And if you have a friend who works on cars, add that ph# too, along with the number of a towing company. During Hurricane Hugo (1989) we evacuated but our neighbor did not. After the hurricane was gone, we called them to see if our house was still intact, so it's a good idea to add your neighbors' numbers, too....especially landline phone numbers is they have one.

I love your list! Most to some KZbinrs repeat the same things but you bring in something new along. I have to agree with 6. Cords and Cables. 10. Old cellphones. 15. Old Batteries. 29. Unused remote controls. In fact, I found out that most Best Buy stores have a recycling bin where you can drop off electronics. I also brought along a bunch of old cellphones, cables, hairdryers, and remote controls. With 5G and a few more networks/applications changes, I doubt those mobile phones would have worked. 23. Coupons/ Receipts - I found a cute small trifold folder in pink at Walmart with pockets. I am sure a few others reading this comment can still find it there or online. I'd like to add: 30. Seasonal items: 4th of July/ThanksG/Xmas stuff/etc. 31. Trunk of the car: if you own one, you can find some creative things and affordable too at Walmart or Target. Clear out, organize, and keep everything reachable. 32. Unused wine corks: if you are a wine aficionado but you are not a DIY person, then throw them in the recycling bin.

@@oneofakindlifestyle That's a great way to recycle them. I turned my old pillowcases into drawstring cloth bags by opening the hem and inserting a shoestring. I donated old glasses to the Lions Club. I tossed my mascara and ordered new mascara. I also tossed moisturizers. They get gross. My glasses turn dark when I go outside, so no special sunglasses. Some good tips in that list! But I have a different take on emails... Since they are not physical clutter, the struggle for me is *avoiding* the temptation to clean them up!! I consider it a waste of time; time that would be better served decluttering something physical. I admit it seems easier with work emails... my approach is more organized and focused at work. I also have faith in my folder system and auto-archiving functions to take care of any perceived problem. Personal emails are a bit harder; they feel a little more 'all over the place'. But when I sense anxiety and an urge to declutter them, I remind myself that it is a misguided sense of obligation that would make zero difference in my life or anyone else's. There are some interesting videos out there about the most time-effective approaches to emails that made me see things differently than before :)
