I'm amazed that mechanics can put it all back together when everything is in a pile. I remember a guy took apart 2 transmissions and put all the parts in the same pile and put them back together perfectly.

I think it is great you are rebuilding the engine yourself. I wish more mechanics were open to it. Here in San Diego they are like mad doctors and all they want to do is throw in a new engine so they can stiff you for half parts, half labor. Thank you!

All the engines I've had to replace was only due to oil consumption or... Improper oil change [like forgetting to add oil]. Otherwise, with normal tight oil change interval, they'll run forever! Oils are far superior than what they were before! 4-5k Miles interval oil changes, car would run forever!
@tomchen86362 жыл бұрын
I just sent my 03 Camry (2az-fe engine) to Toyota dealer for diagnostic due to misfire with random code P0300, 0301,0302,0303, 0304; engine light on/off. Even though after replacing all brand-new Toyota genuine parts (such as 4 injectors, 4 ignition coils, 4 sparkplugs, TP filter, PCV). Cleaning TP, cleaning MAF, checking all vacuum with no leaks, Tech said (copy&paste): “Vehicle will need engine head bolts are pulling threads out of block, coolant leak noted on back of engine head,”. It costs $5k-6k for engine rebuild. Since I bought brand new Camry 2003, I always keep schedule maintenance (oil change at 3-4k miles, flushing coolant, brake/power steering fluid (20k miles), washing car often (and pressure washed underneath too). It has currently 258,808 miles.... The conditions are NOW still in good, and all systems are functioning (starting, charging, A/C, suspension, etc.) . The engine compartment is clean, no oil leaks. The car looks like brand new (good paint/no rust), runs quiet/smooth. I love my Camry and don’t want to give it away but keep and fix it. Any ideal is appreciated. Good luck for your Camry!

You did the right thing rebuilt. A used motor is like guessing game due Toyota was having issues on the motor thread bolts being stripped out and stuff like that. Plus are you putting all new parts in. I feel better being rebuilt if that’s my car. A wonderful job tearing the engine apart and very well explained detail. I’m working on my 2003 Camry LE also too. You just got a subscriber. Can’t wait to see you putting all parts back. Have a wonderful and safe everyday. 👏👏👏👏✌️✌️✌️✌️

Great job and courage to step up to the job ! If you like the car, it is well worth it as you are now solving all of the known engine problems. As you point out, durable old engines use less plastic parts. ODB2 is less complicated.

Fantastic video. If I understand the oil burning problem correct, as long as you change the oil as soon as it looks dirty, and use synthetic keeping everything clean, theoretically you shouldn't have the oil burning problem since the rings don't get gunked up
@partsshooter3 жыл бұрын
Yes..however, the new pistons seemingly have larger holes around the oil rings it seemed, so oil can drain better and not bake themselves closed. Allowing more room for error [oil change interval wise]

I have a 2009 5 speed camry with the oil consumption problem. I'm heavily considering having the engine rebuilt, with upgraded components of course. I would feel better knowing the engine is 100% rebuilt than just throwing in a different engine with who knows what problems.

Interesting... Be mindful of convenience, a remanufactured engine offers you 3yr warrenty. Rebuilding may not be so generous😂, however... Doing it yourself will save you $2.5k though. Decisions...decision...

@partsshooter2 жыл бұрын
Hey there, hopefully this little info helps... There should be an engine code located on the block somewhere which specify the engine family. You should then be able to take that info and search further with a trusted search engine. Also, there should be a VIN tag, if I recall it's around the bell housing of this engine. There should be a site that can decode that VIN and help with narrowing down where it came from. I just googled a "Toyota VIN decoder" and multiple sites came up, try your own car and see if it matches! (im assuming you don't have identifix here) I'll try to keep at it 😂 I'm getting old! Muscles don't work like they did 10yrs ago

This area may be the issue in my 2azfe engine. It is seized. The crankshaft will not rotate after I removed all the timing components (camshafts, chains, etc). Won’t rotate as in it won’t budge.
