I wanna add that it’s also way cheaper than Photoshop, even paying full price for Clip, since it’s a one-time purchase and not a yearly subscription like Photoshop (and all other overpriced Adobe crap). It’s even cheaper if you get it during the Black Friday sale. I got it during the sale for $25 and now I have it forever!

@@Nadiaxel ya i agree i thought the same and was like how could THIS SOFTWARE TAKE OVER ADOBE IN MY TOOL SET. i was shocked right off the bat that after 30+ years on adobe i had found a software that right from opening state was clearly far superior tool for drawing painting and everything we do as artists. Its clean and responsive doesn't show signs of lag or crashes this was first impressions. then i started looking at each tool and went straight for the pencil tool boy i cant say enough how responsive this is and how much more fluid it really is and how to point it is whit my lines. it is like on paper but with instant erase or step back function. i have laid more lines in 3 days then in 30 years. i worked on watercolor paper with ink and no lead so every line counted with this tool i don't have to live with with happy little mistakes as we call them and can truly refine my work to the point of perfection. after 3 days with my drawing tablet not expensive just run of the mill screen jobbie at the 400$ range plugged it in and went to see about clip. got EX and in 3 days i can tell you i may never really open adobe again to do my art. The only reason i may keep adobe PS and AI is for stuff like logo work and post editing of my work and photo editing. in short this software is nothing compared to Adobe and can see why its the industry standard for us artists. Thank you @Nadiaxel for your stunning tut i will be back for sure. at 260$ for the top of the line end software with out ever having to pay again is just the gravey drooling down my chin in awe of this software.

Another thing I sometimes do, is to save a png of the model and then add gaussian blur! So, I won't get lost in the exact curves and details of the model (lines of the body, for example) and the drawing gets less stiff. Maybe sounds odd, but only focusing on the silhouette and general shape is really helpful! c:

Also, one thing I want to add to your point about anatomy: One thing I do is I use the CSP models and pose them in CSP, and I open Blender and load some super detailed anatomy ref models I bought on Artstation and I look back and forth to fill in the anatomical details and muscle groups on my sketch on CSP. This exercise helps a lot to understand and learn anatomy on-the-fly and boosts your visual library as you progress.

Hello. Great video by the way, there is a powerful tool that you can use with 3d models that wasnt mention in your video! When you have a 3d model on your canvas have your "All sides view(M)" check marked which can be found under the windows tab. This provides a window where you can work on your model from 4 different view points with 8 different presets without messing with your canvas. Especially useful when considering animation without messing with your camera shot! 👍

I might have missed it when I scrubbed through this video, but it can't be emphasized enough: 3-D models are great, but if you can find a photo--better yet, if you can *screen cap* an HD video *frame* for your reference --do it! It will always be more organic, because it's real. The image wasn't someone's best educated guess of where what goes where, it's based on what physically is possible, because it happened in the frame. It's the difference between the artist's imagination based on nature versus just the artist's imagination. Remember: you can't draw what you don't understand and you can't understand something visually if you don't know what it *actually* looks like. Everything drawn is based on a reference, nothing comes from nowhere. Anybody who tells you to draw exclusively from memory or from your imagination is wasting your time.

Well said 🙌 I mentioned somewhere in the last 5 minutes of the video that 3D-models should not be a substitute for learning important stuff like anatony and figure drawing (line-of-action, motion, weight, etc). But they can be great supplements! 🌟 And I really can't agree more - everything we create is based on some sort of reference - whether it being a picture, live-drawing or knowledge of anatomical structures. Thanks for sharing 💖

The 3D models have saved my ass countless times tbh I've never been very good at constructing poses from scratch and the unlimited possibilities of simply messing around with them is fun and very useful, not to mention the asset store supplying basically any pose you might ever need and most of them for free. Clip Studio Paint is without a doubt the best art program I've ever had the pleasure of getting to know; to me it's like a healthy mix between Photoshop and Paint Tool SAI and I stg it's got the most user-friendly interface I've ever seen in an art program. Compared to CSP, I personally find Photoshop to be an absolute clunky nightmare (Illustrator is even worse, good *god*) and on top of Adobe's stupid overpriced subscription service it's just not a very good option for artists. It honestly baffles me that it's still the industry standard for professional art because CSP is honest to god so much better

What I usually do is bring up a model of human body/musculature on my second monitor with sketchfab. Break your poses down into simple shape, then use the 3D model a references to draw your muscle groups on. This works well for stuff like comic book art where the body is just flying around in the air all wacky. People in comics, animation, exe, have to pump out thousands of drawings quickly. You can't be bothered to pose a model or look up references constantly. You have to know the body! The stuff I really need photo references for is standing. The way people shift their weight on their hips when standing still always messes me up. The csp models are great though, no hate. Just don't get married to them if you are a beginner.

Epic video. I used to mod Super Smash Bros Brawl waaaayy back and I was already familiar with the posing mechanics, but CSP def ranks top with this toolset. Many artists criticize others for using 3D models to help them with anatomy or posing but really, they just don't understand the entire purpose of the tool. For the record, the models are a tool, you use them or you don't. Your choice. That aside, there are some concerns like how the models themselves are simplified and generic, and to that I say: That is precisely the point of these models. They have the general shape and form all set, it is YOUR job to fill in the unique details. Those unique details will not be present in those models, you need references, whether other photos or from anatomy, it can even be a super detailed, well constructed anatomy model in Blender, and add those details and shape them how you want over the base form of the model and construct your character. This tool set just accelerates the process of building those super base shapes from scratch. What you did is one of many ways you can use those models. I for one, draw over some of the silhouettes of the models, and then I mentally add the detailed muscle and fat groups that the model either lacks or oversimplifies, and I end up creating unique sketch, that I can then ink with vector layers and correct line curves and thickness. Another epic thing you can theoretically do is use these models to help you do Gundam styled mechs (yes, seriously). You use the model as "the trunk" of the form of the mech, and draw over it the nitty gritty of the mechs as you go. In the end, these models are guidelines and you can theoretically exploit their purpose with just about any model out there, draw over them a base form or a general sketch, modify some of the curves or face and sketch over your unique character, all it does is speed up the construction phase of basic shapes and helps a ton on perspective, and that is helpful and I am grateful Clip Studio has provided this powerful tool which artists can choose to opt for with no shame.

I use 3D models occasionally (either CSP or ArtPose or Magic Poser), but the problem I have is when trying to place a model into a scene with objects. Since objects are made by different users, you can have a normal sized room and end up with a gigantic flower vase that you then have to adjust the scale. It also seems like some objects have different properties than others. I haven’t quite figured this out yet, but some objects just don’t behave the same and I don’t know why.
@Nadiaxel2 жыл бұрын
I actually experience this as well xD once dropped a GIANT shoe on my canvas and it looked like my character was using it as a boat LOL. So yea, with the custom 3D objects you never really know how the creator structured the object, so scaling and "tweaking" is sometimes necessary when using unofficial models/objects 🥲

I'm really glad to hear that you ditched photoshop and procreate. 🤣🤣🤣🤣 Clip studio is where it's at, baby!!!😎😎😎😎 It's about time I figured out how to pose 3D characters for reference especially in animation. Thanks to you, I now claim 3D Power to 2D artists/animators!!! 😝😝😝😝😝😝

3D POWER TO 2D ARTISTS! --- Amazing video, this program can do a lot of stuff. I would say it gives Photoshop a run for its money (literally).
