I would like to know how he derived the CofG at this location on the boom. Can this be calculated from the supplied information and how?

i may be wrong but i think you got the cos and sin reversed

yes he took reversed projection for the force at X & Y axis, but in this case we have 45 degrees angle so in trigenometric ruls sin 45=cos 45 then that didn't affect calcul
