Since no one has mentioned this, I imagine the dimension is present in the drawing, but I can't find it. Looking at the 3 notches in the top view, I see they are 12 mm wide. From the side view I see they are 13 mm deep. But where is the notch length (how close they come to the outer edge of the cylinder) specified? I took a guess that they were 9mm long and completed the drawing with 155.9398 g. What did I miss?
@TooTallToby2 ай бұрын
Its the 58mm (from tangent inside of hole) dimension

Yeah - it takes a while to see the quickest way both from the drawing AND ALSO the fastest way to duplicate the features in the CAD program. Easy to panic and too easy making a typo error!

I've been blasting though the practice models to get used to FreeCAD (after years on F360/OnShape). Tiers 1-4 completed (except "spear head"). So far I can say that FreeCAD is a contender in "forward" functionality but when it comes to later changing earlier features it breaks easily. The shape numbering scheme leads to broken references and it is easier to delete the broken reference than it is to fix it. All in all so far FreeCAD does what I need it to do for my projects but beware to anyone using it in a production environment - "the cheap comes out expensive"
@timheeney20602 ай бұрын
but this type of copying a drawing to make a model is only for practicing faster modelling methods - it's not actually design modelling, it's just making a model from a drawing in the fastest way possible. Robust modelling takes using references that won't break easily with unplanned future changes - I'm sure FreeCAD can do that. Unfortunately, such cautionary practices take time to learn and aren't conducive to making radical design changes as the design progresses along - making such changes opportunistically at anytime a better idea emerges as the design progresses is vital.
@EUPThatsMe2 ай бұрын
@@timheeney2060 I'm not too concerned with the time I take since I am often interrupted by honey-dos or puppy distractions- I just wanted to learn the ins-and-outs of using FreeCAD before I try to use it for my own design modeling - the robustness experience comes from when I screw up/miss a dimension and my first (or second/third) answers are incorrect. One key I've found so far is to save all the 3D fillets/chamfers for after all 2D referencing work is done. So far FreeCAD has shown itself to be less conducive to "opportunistic" changes when way down the model tree but I've only begun to dig into the features and how they interact from one workbench to the other.

@@EUPThatsMe did you use current stable version 0.21.2 or latest development build? upcoming 1.0 version is a big leap forward in more stable models and also brings some speedup in usage.
@EUPThatsMe2 ай бұрын
@@sarahb.8186 yep, I'm using the stable release. I played with the dev release a bit. I like the sketch reuse for multiple pads. The biggest difference has been the "closed wire" vs "profiles" selection for extrudes. In a way FreeCAD has increased my discipline wrt fully constraining my sketches.

There is a missing dimension, I don't think it matters for the mass value but the height of that curved section above bottom is not there.
@timheeney20602 ай бұрын
No , all dimensions are there.

@timheeney2060 okay but the thing at the bottom is not at the base of the object it's a little higher from the picture and the 2d image as well, but I dont see the height above, if there is could u tell me what it is
@timheeney20602 ай бұрын
@@fahimnabeel606 In engineering speak, I think you're talking about the 2 sticky out sharp bits on the end of the legs - is that right? If that's right, it's shown in the lower right dimensioned view next to the title block. The top of the snap retainer is 16mm from the bottom face and the height is determined by the angle of 60 deg. The snap rib size is r45 or (90),
