Another amazing video Matt! Been working on the Rock Van myself recently. Changed out tires and wheels and just put on some new Enduro fcx24 shocks as well. Almost wish I waited for the t-hunter but .. i could always get it later as long as the wife doesn't kill me 🤣

Great video. This looks a sweet truck. Will definitely be interested in any follow up videos that show part compatibility with the FCX24 and others. I'm loving the aesthetic of this, and thinking with the FCX24's 2 speed transmission it'll have both the nice crawl and some speed for some little jumps and so on. Interesting that they've got the transmitter combo that FMS say is no longer available on the FCX24, I've got the V2 myself.

Great Video. I dismissed this truck at first thinking it looked really cheap in photos, it definitely looks much better in your video and seems to perform really well for a stock inexpensive truck. Hopefully there will be more upgrade parts for these as they release more trucks, maybe the aftermarket will pick up some. Off topic - I was curious if you had thought about replacing the stock TRX4M electronics with flysky electronics from one of your other trucks to see how that affected the slow crawl? Maybe a cheap alternative with the Moforc big block motor vs furitek/brushless setup.

Great review! Ordered a Yellow one. I am curious if the Injora 50T pro would fit and have a bit more wheel speed. From your vid I don`t think it needs much more, but a smidge never hurts. I am looking forward to seeing the custom builds that come from these. Still glad I didn`t get the trx4m.

First RC Mog with performance.I recommend central metal gears! My Van central gears broke first ride.Which tires and rims you put on your Van? Maybe Hobby Plus sell a 2 speed as an upgrade.

The hobbyplus aluminum shocks are not a bad. I stuck a set on the rockvan. It lifted it just a bit and i got more articulation.

Yeah they are some really good shocks. Basically what Furitek is using on all of their custom rtrs. I’ve used them quite a bit for the scx24s back in the day

bought one in tan, i realllly like those looks now that im seeing it in person. only one thing i do not like is that switch and battery setup. could gain alot of performance moving it up front & down low. but then the body needs to be fixed and put on a hinge or magnets, etc. i really like these newer hobbyplus rigs, hoping they catch on

I’ve been putting around with my rockvan. I was on the fence about returning it but decided to keep it. I’m a little bummed they swapped to the slightly different esc (turn signals always on). Stock the rockvan is the most capable I’ve had so far. From an scx24, fcx24 and trx4m. I did strip my plastic gears but only when I put heavy wheels and tires on it. The only thing I don’t like is the Philips head. I already stripped out one of the shock screws trying to adjust it. I’m thinking T hunter soon.

Just the transmission on these are plastic. I would definitely get the metal gears for it because mine stripped fairly quick.

it's a Unimog! of course it looks awesome! :D (that's also why it doesn't have lights on the body. or more specifically, the model that has "inspired" this one :)) the only "problem" with this, is that for people like me (little space, little time, no access to 3d printers etc), it has little to no aftermarket. i'd love a 130 motor option for this one... at least a motor mount :D anyway, glad i waited to get the rock van... i'll be getting this instead and get a rock van body (with accessories) to paint and swap whenever i feel like it :)

Some of your complaints about the TRX-4M sound like they could be solved with you running the lower gear set so you get better resolution down low on the throttle. Their combo unit for the ESC-RC LINK and 2 AUX powers to which the lights are powered from 1 and i power my VTX off the other for FPV has been a great little unit. We have to remember who their target market is and adjust our expectations off of that. Its the most well built feeling crawler in its class as the others feel more toyish like per say....

I agree with pretty much everything you had to say about these two platforms. I felt the Rockvan was as good as, if not better than the trx4m. I was expecting so much less from Hobbyplus and the CR-18P. I bought it because I liked the styling of the van but I was really surprised. The TRX4m...was just meh. Good, but nothing to write home about. I also thought the gray plastic shocks on the Rockvan looked cheap af but they really are better than stock scx24 by far as well as a lot of aftermarket shocks for that matter. Surprised me. Thanks man, great video.

Yep they are basically the exact same. The transmitter is just black and has a different logo on it.

A good bargain, i'd say. Though it seems there is a lack of flex. Too hard springs or not heavy enough ? A good point is it's "ugly" enough to crawl without being afraid of scratches.😄

In terms of the electronics, are there connections available on the receiver to add additional features like for example the two speed from the fmx24? Is there space to install the servo to switch the gears? I actually never thought I‘d need the two speed as long as I only ran the scx24s, but now I somehow hot used to the added wheelspeed of the fcx24 recently.

I bought way too many cars in the winter but I think Ill have to pick on of these up eventually. I got the upgraded shocks on my Rock Van and besides a little binding on the front passenger side they work great. I'm only halfway through the video but do you know any details about the HD Reduction Gear Box Fair RC has for these? Is it different gearing then the stock ones? It does say it has metal gears in the HD gear box so I ordered that instead of just the gears.

Those are actually much harder to get to. Kinda wanted to see what it took to pull the entire body and bed because if you are gonna pull the transmission you’ll need to pull both.

The later real world unimogs all have the headlights in the bumpers. So it would have looked stupid, had hobbyplus added lights to the grill of the body, where there are no lights in real world - unlike for example on the deadbolt, where it may have looked better to put lights into the body instead of the bumper.

Well I had to subscribe. Great content. Thanks for it. Good thing you don't plan on doing too much stuff about Axials SCX24. Too much of it around already. But man, these little cheaper trucks, some are good indeed but most need some upgrades. To that end, I would like to see and be informed about all the compatible components that fits on these cheaper ones. Things like tires, wheels, links and so on. Also, would it be possible to fit a Traxxas TRX4M boddy on this you think ? I think that would be useful to gey these infos because the fun thing about cheaper stuff is upgrading them to make them real performers. I plan on getting two of these little Hobbyplus Unimogs to make my self a little military convoy... So please, give us infos and share your upgrades to this thing. Hey Matt. I have a couple questions. What overall weight do you set for yourself as a max on a scx24 or a fcx24 and what is your thoughts on the injora 1/24 rock buggy? I can't find anyone on KZbin with one.

I normally just build my builds as light as possible with all plastic parts etc. Then I’ll usually add in some brass steering knuckles or portal covers etc here or there based on how it drives. Depending how heavy the wheels are I may add a little to those but try to keep the rotational weight down when I can. Especially if I can add the weight with a portal cover or something. I almost always put some sort of brass knuckle up front. If it’s a top heavy build like a stock fcx body or something I’ll add some to the rear here or there. I rarely ever get a weight on my rigs I just really go more on feel and how it drives. I actually have the Injora rock buggy that I need to build! I just haven’t got around to it yet lol. Hopefully tomorrow I’m finishing up a cool build and then I’ll be getting started on that one next. I can get you some weights on my rigs tomorrow if ya want.

No they are different. Very similar but most parts won’t cross over. I was able to use the servo on axle mount for the fcx on the cr18p axles but that’s about it. Steering links may work I’m not sure. I’ll have to try those.

Dude thank you for admitting the trx4m is not the 2nd coming of you know who. Everytime I take it out I'm reminded of what it needs or what it's missing and how Traxxas conveniently has something already for sale at a ridiculous price. Except a brushless system of course. Admitidly it's a nice scale appearing licenced looking truck, but man it is so skin deep. I picked up a Defender and a Bronco in pre-sale, but I highly doubt I'll buy another.

I love my bronco in every way, of course they are not going to put all of the upgrades on the TRX-4M straight out of the box. Traxxas is a large company with alot of over head and has to create additional revenue through upgrades. There corporate office and store is just right down the street from me here in Texas which is also very convenient. FYI...i might be a little biased 😜.

Yeah that’s why they can get away with releasing the crap they release so easily. Their name. The Trx4m could be great but the electronics are garbage,rubber o rings on the driveshafts,all plastic gears and Traxxas with bushings? Really? They should be better than that. I have a set of brand new axles that will barely spin straight out of the pack because the bushings suck so bad. Then you got people talking about self lubricating bushings like they are a good thing 😆 Traxxas should’ve used some of the money they paid them to upgrade their trucks! That price tag for the Trx4m is for their name no doubt and I actually don’t hate the truck. It just should’ve been much better imo
