There's a big difference between stacking and collecting. It can be easy for some folks to fall into collecting and almost not realise it. Personally I like both, but I go out of my way to not convince myself that I'm stacking when I want something pretty that's impractical. Thanks as always!

This is precisely the point. One additional category is speculating, although many of those (but not all!) are mainly in the paper/derivatives market and not in the physical market.

I do both but mainly numi. I am aware it will take 10 years to break even on the numis. I usually have said no to the price at least 10 times before I get a 50% offer and know the areas of numi very well. Very narrow categories.

That's actually pretty good list and something to keep in mind and I always appreciate your thoughtful clear and precise articulation of what you believe in what you've experienced and what you share and how it can help us to make it brighter choice. I think if I get something that's going to be now at the prices that pee pee and things were dropped down I'm pretty sure I want to feel the sting but I think about how things can go wrong and honestly with what I got I keep that in mind but I always keep a record of what I buy set those items aside for inventory so if prices ever come back up a little higher and I wish to sell I can get my money back at least and maybe a little bit. I think it's always good to keep an inventory what you have so that if you do sell you'll know what you'll be getting. Had I done that when I was younger in the military buying gold silver when I was younger when it was low I think it would have been well worth it. But now I'm just more concerned about how useful golden silver is because right now the future is a bit unknown. And it's a better hobby the most. Except gardening and homesteading.

And that's perfectly fine, IMO. Stacking should contain elements of fun. That is what helps keep us going with all this. I don't have any "fun coins" but that's OK. Fun for me is the anticipation of receiving a purchase and unboxing it to add to my stack. Other than that, fun coins are not my thing. Stacking IS my thing and what I want from it is to create a substantial stack at a fair price. If most of those gold and silver coins are of a nice grade that presents well, then that is perfectly fine. If they cost a little more than less attractive coins, so be it. I like getting the coins I want at a good price but won't try to nickel and dime the seller. He or she deserves a slice of the pie too.

Hi 2, as you know, I'm an after market kind of guy and I often buy coins on your verboten list, so I can testify that those coins do NOT hold their premiums and become just interesting pieces of bullion. So you can always recommend that people buy the last decades' hot collector items rather than this week's. 10oz RCM bars are my favourite in that category, but mine all have early serial numbers and were purchased near spot. It's very good to find a friendly LCD and get to know them well.

Only about 10% of my stack's dollar value is in "collectible" bullion, but that's because I mostly just buy standard government minted coins like ASEs and Buffaloes. Doesn't mean I won't occasionally buy something cool and collectible like my 1oz reverse proof gold Libertad (most beautiful coin ever made 😉) or my 1KG Queen's Beast silver completer coin, just means I mostly focus on bullion with moderate premiums and that's easy to resell in an emergency, should one arise.

Silver has been a horrific investment of a longer period of time. On January 18, 1980, silver reached an all-time high price of $49.45/troy ounce. This surge was largely due to the Hunt brothers, who attempted to corner the silver market by buying large amounts of silver and silver futures contracts, consequently driving up the demand and spot price of the precious metal. Also, silver is NOT a hedge for inflation…
@ronniejones6398
@ronniejones6398 9 ай бұрын
I have been thinking that same thing. Silver is not going to be valuable if the country or the world goes into a recession. Because manufacturing will slow down tremendously. ALOT of products made of silver will cease or slow down. Just my opinion though.
@bensherman8976
@bensherman8976 9 ай бұрын
I disagree because when everything goes digital.cbdcs . Folks will wish they had something that has value. When that takes place gold and silver will be a sot after item. Metals.will be one of the very few things you got that no one knows about. I look at it as a just in case kinda thing. Idk I just put it back here and there. It sure doesn't hurt. It's better than keeping a paper money savings account. That's my opinion if Course

Silver absolutely is a hedge against inflation. In the early 1970’s a nice new car cost around 3k. 2 thousand ounces of silver was worth 3 grand. Today , two thousand ounces of silver is worth nearly 50 grand, hence you can still buy a nice new car. If that ain’t a hedge I don’t know what is!

@@WhiteAngloSaxon sorry, but you are wrong. Silver may have been a hedge in inflation FIFTY YEARS AGO, but we deal in today. I've bought semi-numismatic silver for the little ones to appeal to their interests...Queen's Beasts; Canadian wildlife coins; Perth Mint Lunars, Kooks, and Koalas; even Zombucks and Emoji rounds...but I bought at the time of production for the lowest premiums possible, and I know that if they're ever sold, it'll probably be for the melt price. They served their purpose in making saving fun, and this type of silver gives way to their first 1/10 oz AGE tube we work on together.
@2is1gold
@2is1gold 9 ай бұрын
If you're buying at the time of release, your buy to sell spread is probably still intact. Perth Mint Lunars, for instance, hit with premiums below AGEs. I think they work well, especially if they're more intriguing to the eventual owner. Cheers!

I largely agree with your assessment, and I'm happy to report that I don't buy any of these types of Gold & Silver. I stick to fractional 22k Gold coins, Eagles & Krugerrands, and I limit myself to 1 ounce as the maximum size for any Silver coins, rounds, or bars that I purchase. I do these things mostly to preserve my flexibility and to give myself the largest universe of possible buyers when I go to sell them. I wish more people would put as much thought into their stacking as you did in this video. It would save them from a mountain of costly mistakes. Having said that, I do often tell people to set themselves a milestone goal to reach with their metals. Once they've met this goal, I think it's much more allowable to relax a bit and buy a few things that you like or are interested in vs just for weight or a particular stacking strategy. It's always important to regularly buy some things that you have no feeling for, as those will be the easiest for you to let go, but it doesn't mean that you can't eventually indulge your collecting side or your dragon loving side. Great video!

Milk spots are starting to plague the Britannia, not the gold brittania but the silver Britt. Today is October 8th, 2023 and we are headed for another slide despite Fridays (October 6) one positive day for precious metals out of 14 double digit lost days for silver and gold. Look for gold to get close to 1800. If not under, silver Will probably head close to 21 if not under. Do not buy right now unless prices start to go up. I would start buying gold again If it hits 1845, I would start buying silver if it hits 22. Thank you for the video, another good one. Milk spots do not affect silver eagles, krugerrands, philharmonics and that's about it, keep them in airttite capsules in a Ziploc bag at 76°. The worst for milk spots is the Silver maple leaf, been having a lot of problems. You can get these milk spots out, but it's a very arduous process.

I seperate my flips from my stacking. Usually im buying a few of something that I feel like will sell out quick just so I can keep 1 for free. For example the nz mint Star Wars chibis were hot for a couple years. I sold so many of those I practically have a free collection. That takes some luck and following the market though.

I agree. Way back in the 1990s I bought a set of 6 silver Star Trek TNG coins in a presentation case from QVC UK of all places. I forget how much it was but I struggled to sell them a few years later and when they did sell I took a massive loss on them. Didn't even get the at the time spot price for them which I think was £10 per ounce of silver. I can't even remember if they were 1 ounce silver coins, I think they were.

I buy/hold "P-Metals" to protect a portion of my cash, though I have made excellent profits with the past 3 BIG increases ('80, '99, '11) and if/when there's any BIG increases happening, I'll be "flush" with Gold/Silver to enjoy that, however that's really not the priority of my keeping "P-Metals".

Slabbed coins can be difficult to scan to confirm that it is not a fake. Just something else to keep in mind - especially if you are buying on E-bay or some other questionable source. Other point - I will buy the occasional semi-numismatic but it has to be only a bit more than bullion price.

When wanting to RESALE - the MAJOR THING to keep in mind, YOUR REGION... I have learned from my travels around the USA, each region has what will SALE and what will NOT Sale too well... Example: In my region, NO CHINESE GOLD/SILVER Panda's or the Like Kind of coins. No one here wants them, not even the Pawn Shops. However, what is really acceptable is GERMAN, FRANCE, GREAT BRITIAN, AUSTRALIA, AUSTRIA, CANADA, USA, etc.. Minted Gold/Silver are more readily recognized and accepted...

What about having a 100 ounce silver bar and when selling it, cutting it into smaller pieces? Kind of like gold chain links. True or not true, I don't know. But I read once that gold chains were a way for the wealthy to carry gold for payments. When they needed something, they would cut off a link or how many need to pay for something. Just as long ago jewels were also used to barter. Anyway, cutting up a big bar into smaller pieces?

As someone who loves Perth Mint coins, I can tell you that they command a profit. They sell well on ebay, and APMex will buy large collections well-over spot. Now, I have probably gone overboard on these (all the half oz, rapidly buying 1,2 and 5 oz versions). Chinese cultural influence is only growing, and Perth has the best designs. I can only see these grow, unlike the UK and Canada lunar coins.

Yes, if just interested to invest in Silver and Gold, always purchase those items, with the lowest premium over spot. Becos, when it comes to selling them, at best, most likely the buyers would pay you just at their spot prices, even for those beautiful gold & silver minted limited coins, unless you can find some buyers who are collectors for them.

1:35 🚫 Avoid slabbed and graded modern bullion, especially if sold at a high premium. It's often not worth the extra cost and could be a marketing tactic rather than genuine value. 5:01 💡 Semi-numismatic silver coins might be enticing, but consider whether you're buying for collection or stacking. The low margin and difficulty in finding buyers can be a drawback. 6:47 🔄 Semi-numismatic gold coins can be appealing for their designs and potential resale value, but be cautious of the time and effort required to find buyers and the risk of overpaying. 8:33 🛑 Large or fancy bars, while aesthetically pleasing, may not offer the best value. Stick to popular, easily sellable options to avoid complications in the future. 10:58 💬 There are exceptions and nuances to these guidelines, so weigh the pros and cons of each option carefully before making a purchase. It's essential to consider your goals and preferences when stacking gold or silver.
