It's a really nice game, I bought it two years ago because it was on sale and never played it, but one day I was so bored I booted up the game and I'm so glad I did it, because it was the only thing I played that week, and I enjoyed every minute of it, I still have to play through the dlc, but I encourage everyone to buy it, it's on sale right now and the price is basically a steal for what you are getting out of this game!
@jurefranceskin31765 жыл бұрын
Play through the dlc. It's just as good as the main game, if not better.
@monkeywithocd5 жыл бұрын
The DLC isn't as good as the main game, but it's still good. I mainly just missed the level of existential quandaries present in the main game, as the DLC leans a bit heavier on humor and just existing in the world instead of thinking about it. Honestly I'm worried about how I've heard talk that they're going to make a sequel, as I can't really see them capturing that same level of thought provocation again. I would love to be proven wrong, though. Edit: Oh, and the stars are *required* for the good ending which is BS. Not all of them, but I think you need all but two IIRC. Had to cheat for a number of them, which is something I hated doing in The Talos Principle.

The Talos Principle is the kind of masterpiece that you can't stop thinking about when you've just finished it, then you forget about it completely, and then when you're reminded of its existence you suddenly get the incredible urge to boot up again. I've completed the game and the DLC, I remember being obsessed by them, but now I barely remember any of it. Which is good, because that gives me an excuse to replay it. This is different from Portal 2 and Deus Ex, which although I played them longer ago, I still remember the vague bigger picture of. Because of this, I don't think I would enjoy replaying them as much, even though I played them for days on end, hours at a time. I love this game so much.
@laguna2095 жыл бұрын
The Talos Principle was my nightmare for years. It was one of the games that got me into philosophy, to understand humanity better. It was where my life changed and i saw everything with a different light, how beautiful is the world and the things we have are wonderful. Truly, listening to Alexandra's tapes, reading the memories of the humans that appear to be gone for years and years is just heartbreaking but at the same time so fucking beautiful. It really gives you hope in what the darkness took away in the first place. Never stopped playing and finished the game in 2 days in the summer of 2016, truly changed my life, i still highly suggest it to everyone to experience it, because honestly there's, atleast not for me, anything like it.
@DJprDPr05 жыл бұрын
10:32 "I'm not the only person who was left profoundly moved by it" I think the loneliness aspect of the game is exactly why it's so beautiful, you mindlessly listen to God while doing your puzzles and getting hints of communication around you (QR codes). You start seeking social interaction because of the scarcity of the interaction. You slowly begin searching for knowledge, meaning, history about all of it and in turn, you start asking questions. I played it years ago, it made me feel like I was inside the game, living the story. I never thought twice whenever I read hours of writing on a computer terminal, or having conversations with it. Every single interaction was perfect. Nothing felt like a game. To whomever reads this and hasn't tried it, I know it sounds absurd. But I really can't stop suggesting you try it, it really is something special.
@GermanPeter5 жыл бұрын
Talos Principle is one of those games that I was so invested in that I finished them on one morning in my pyjamas. I just wanted to do one more level before breakfast, but then I finished ALL of it, that's how much fun it was. Actually, was it really "fun"? I mean, the puzzles definitely were, but the story is just soulcrushing and genuinely made me feel bad at times. It was definitely a game that hooked me from day 1. The beautiful environments, the wonderful music, the atmosphere... it makes me nostalgic for a place I never visited. I'd love to live in that world. It's so gorgeous. What a fantastic game, absolutely brilliant.

He messed me after only a few hours in the game with "Talos is fucking aggravating and addicting I love it". I played this game to completion, but it's not so much a game, and it's more like a never-ending philosophical journey. It's a philosophical journey through a landscape of the most important philosophical questions in human history. The landscape includes key snippets of books, commentary from other past AI's, snippets of art and poetry, conversations with an archetypal nihilistic doubter, and a relationship with god-the logos in disguise-which leads to rebellion against all known order. This isn't a game. This is a living, breathing piece of art, and it's possibly the most important piece of meta-fiction ever created. The Talos Principle is totally & utterly Sublime.

Could not agree more. Probably the best game experience I ever had. The puzzles themselves are mostly fun and beating them is oddly rewarding. About the story aspect I absolutely share your feelings. I never got around to checking, but I'm pretty confident that I solved one of the later puzzles in this game in a way that the developers never intended. I agree. Don't get me wrong I absolutely love the Portals, but this game is just that little bit better. I love The Talos Principle, and while some of the puzzles do rival, if not exceed the quality of the best bits of either Portal, I remember getting a bit cheesed off from time to time with TTP, in a way I never did with Portal. I was in the same place as you. Found it extremely weird at first and was put off by elements like the terminals. I stopped playing and then I picked it back up some months later and couldn't stop playing until I finished and it became my favourite game. Try it!

Well, then. I will definitely give it another try.

The puzzles are fantastic, but the story told in the terminals, and the voice, the scientist, and the story you tell for yourself is just what makes this game the best I've ever played.

Thank you so much for recommending this game, Philip! I bought and played it after watching this video and it is, indeed, the best game I've ever seen in terms of plot and storytelling. I found myself spending hours digging through the various levels to discover all secrets, collected all logs I could find, and even translated the hex strings to ascii with the help of an OCR tool. I knew I could probably find all that information somewhere online but I was so engrossed in the game that I didn't want to pull away from it until the very end - managed to log nearly 40 hours in the span of 3 days. I'll leave the more detailed commentary for the follow-up video but I'll say that The Talos Principle, to me, truly reveals what distinguishes video games from other artistic mediums.

You absolute monster, I always spoil games for myself by watching the extra-spoilery video. You officially added a level of inconvenience that will make me go play the game instead. I can usually tell when 3kliksphillip is getting ideas, and this feel like one of those times...

Phil is 100% right to warn you, watching a spoiler for the Talos principle would be like throwing away a finely cooked steak.

One of the most philosophical games i've ever played. Story is great, the way you answer to questions that have consequences further into the game. Glad to see that you made a video about it, You don't see that much of Talos Principle anywhere. It's a very underappreciated game

I'm absolutely dumb and yet this is one of my favorite games of all time. Still can't believe this is from the same people who made Serious Sam.

If you realize you have much to learn, and this is your favorite game; then I have a hard time believing you're dumb, friend. Don't be so hard on yourself.

Yeah seriously (pun intended), don't go hard on yourself, dumb people usually pretend as if they are smart lol.

The best things in this game are its views on borders of locations with the gorgeous OST. There're no super resolution textures, but yet it brings so cozy feelings. I love the forests, I love the snows, I love the deserts, I fucking love the Tower (I've never seen such a big thing in video games before)

I'm so glad I watched you video before starting my journey through TTP. If I played without watching it, I probably would have skipped the terminal archives reading and most of Milton's dialogues as well. But thanks to the heads up, I paid full attention to each and every text and dialogues which definitely enhanced my feeling after reaching the end.

I bought and played the game during the xmas sale 4 years ago and it's been on my mind ever since. It's the most beautiful game I've ever played and also probably my most favorite one. It's really difficult to talk about it without running the risk of ruining the experience to some degree, like you said. But one thing that I will say, that's quite ambiguous and might also be pulled straight out of my a** is that more than in any other game that I can think of, in the Talos Principle, you are an integral piece of the puzzle (no pun intended). I've been gushing over this game for almost half a decade and I'm glad that you made this video. If there's a game that deserves the title "masterpiece", it's this one.

Thanks for sharing. This is one of my favourite games too. I love how they merged openness with puzzle rooms, and AI was already one of my interests so the terminals were great.
