Mixing Mediums: Stencils, Paint, and Gold Accents in my Art Journal

In this art video tutorial, I delved into Dina Wakley's Media Journal, showcasing its diverse paper types. Opening the journal to a new page, I embarked on a creative journey, spanning two watercolor pages to construct an abstract layout. Armed with the Kuretake Gansai Tambi watercolors, stencils, paint, and subtle touches of gold, I explored the interplay of colors and textures. To kickstart the process, I consulted a color palette card from the Color Cube, infusing an extra layer of inspiration into the project. Well, that turned out amazing. I have a rowing machine and I love to put my iPad on the rack and get my exercise while watching a video. I love your particularly because they are long enough to take me through the whole half hour of what is pretty monotonous activity. The time flies by and then I am inspired to head into my art room and create something. It’s a win win. The close ups of the detail were fantastic. The colors just went together so perfectly. Super fun, I have the big journal, I bought it when I was just starting and found it quite overwhelming so it sits on my shelf. When I get home in the spring, I am going to get it out. The TCW stencil ‘pearls’ is one of my favourite stencils too, it is very versatile and I love it for texture pastes. Your videos are always uplifting and inspiring, thank you!💕🇨🇦

I did something interesting today following this vid (fab by the way!). I had 2 pots of acrylic in mid and darker grey that were rather thick. I grabbed a small palette knife and voila - nice thick marks in a pattern, looks 3D!

These pages are de-vine, Denise. Love the “pearls" cascading down the page and the entire color palette. This might be my favorite page, but I do love the very first pages you did using a stencil with the water color and the orange paper in between. What if you did a stencil or mark making on both sides of the orange paper so that the larger pages are the background for the images??? (Sorry, every time I see the pages I can’t help but think about it).

Neocolor 2 is the exact thing I’m using. I don’t know what they are made of. They are water soluble too.

They are! I love them. I found little sample pots at the antique store and the colors are so beautiful. Most of the time I try to use artist paints.. but I love these little pots of mineral paint. 😊
