2ND ALARM struck for house fire in Northampton, Pennsylvania

Northampton County 9-1-1 transmitted a house fire for 2006 Washington Avenue for a house fire at 6:50AM Sunday. Callers were reporting the porch on fire and rapidly expanding.
On arrival they found a working fire in a 2-1/2 story dwelling with fire on the porch and extending vertically and reports of people trapped. Engine 42 arrived in front of the fire building and immediately darkened down the fire with the deck gun.
Crews were reporting people trapped on a porch to the rear of the building. Firefighters threw ground ladders and removed the occupants without incident.
The fire continued to extend and eventually got into the attic space where it burned off a portion of the roof.
Three cats were removed and in care of EMS where one passed.

I had a house fire once and the firefighters rescued my cat, took him to the ambulance for oxygen and he was fine. A little sooty, but alive. Wonderful people !

Thank you for showing the care given by the rescuers to the cats, Bill. I heard about this call from your Facebook before the video was up and my heart sunk when I heard there was pet casualties. Having lost a large portion of their home, I can't imagine the added weight of having lost their furry family members on top of it. Fingers crossed for the poor babies that they can make a recovery 🤞. Growing up across the street from Charotin 18, it's nice to see those I know out there saving lives, both 2 and 4 legged.

I worked with a highly respected, we’ll experienced and well educated Chief at the fire academy who used to tell each new cadet class the same thing The actions you take during the first few minutes of an incident will dictate the way the remainder of the incident will go.....however, expect FF Murphy to arrive with his law book and f@&k up everything. Always expect something to go wrong. The first stretch didn’t go quite the way it could have, but these things happen. You fix the problem and you move on, continuing to fight the fire. Keep in mind, it wasn’t the only line stretched so water was going on the fire regardless. At the end of the day, the house was still standing, one “jacked up” line or not.

That would be me. Gladly serving for 4 years now and worked my way up to chief. Lol. Actually I do ask a lot of dumb questions like how do you know what hoses go on what trucks. Found out many have colors or labels. Found out why they vent. What I don't understand and never will .... Why leave that alarm on when you are outside, plainly seen in the staging area.

It’s nice to see a crew utilizing the quint the way a quint is intended to be used. Laid their own supply line in, stretched their own attack lines, eventually put the main in use, and yes Kurtis homan, used a lot of ground ladders. Too many fire departments spend hundreds and hundreds of thousands, even a million in some departments on quint apparatus and never actually use it as a quint. There can never be enough ladders in service at a fire. Every ladder that is up is another way down when things go wrong.

This is the 2nd video I've seen from this department with what appears to be more water issues. The ff has the line but you can Clearly see its limp meanwhile the 🔥 is growing on the porch and first floor. Whatever happened to catching a hydrant on the way in, unless this is not a paid department and didn't have the manpower to spare one

Those ACCOUNTABILITY tags don’t mean shit regardless of where they are. They do nothing more than identify who is on a fire ground. You don’t get regular updates on a firefighter’s location in the fire building, that firefighters’s condition, if the task assigned is being carried out, air supply levels, etc. in the event of a firefighter emergency you don’t get the necessary information such as what the problem is that’s causing the emergency from a tag. The only thing you get from a tag is someone’s name. Having EVERY member assigned a portable radio provides much greater accountability. Have EVERY member trained in the use of that radio. Train them so they understand who they are supposed to report their progress, or lack of progress to. Such as the operations officer or to the IC directly. Train members how to alert others to a firefighter emergency. Ensuring members provide PAR updates at regular intervals. Fire ground communications, by radio and face to face provide accountability, a tag does not.

Where do you suggest they move them to? I can only imagine that moving cars becomes a low priority here especially given the obvious lack of room to move them around...you have a road full of fire trucks etc.

Come on people get real... Do any of you know how to fight a fire???? Fire are like tornadoes, they are unpredictable and dangerous. These fire folk are trained to read smoke etc etc. If there is no immediate danger to life then let the sucker burn, you can rebuild a building but you cant a life and I think it's a small price to pay.... belongings over the family 🤷‍♀️.... no brainer really if you ask me........

That is because a stabbing is typically the result of a violent crime and therefore is a law enforcement matter. Fire and EMS personnel are usually requested to remain “staged” until law enforcement can declare a scene safe for all responders.
