Many of us who watched that video. CHOOSE NOT to say what we should say about what we saw. It's the brotherhood/sisterhood kind of respect. Those who were there SHOULD be asking the important questions, and getting honest answers.

I would love to know what you're referring to.... but I'm a bit late. What I saw, however, is firemen not making a real effort to put out the fire. I've never understood that. Watch as they spray water anywhere but the hotspots of the fire. For example, at 1:19.

I just watched this video. What a fire. It reminded me of one we had here a year ago. It was a neighborhood bar with apartments. The building was 119 years old. Thank heaven no one was hurt but the building was destroyed. It never had any problems in the past. The owner had just got done remodeling one of the apartments so he tenents could get around better and to be able to get out.

I have seen those tanker truck a lot of times and just like in the vide here how they fill up let's call them pools with water, but just have always been curious, why do they have to use those pools and then have to place the hoses in them to suck out the water, am very surprised that those tanker truck just don't have hose hookups on them just like regular fire trucks have just so the water can just go from the tanker and then through the hoses, I know that the reason why they use those pools is just so once the tanker empties out it's load of water, they can immediately leave a go refill them just like the ones I see that the construction companies uses.......

Dumping the water in the "Pools" is faster then hooking/unhooking the tankers when they pull up.
@BOB2pointzero
@BOB2pointzero 10 жыл бұрын
the pools act as the water source (due to no hydrants in the area) for the pumpers, as the tender (tanker truck) goes and refills at a water source. if the water is needed at a higher rate, multiple tenders will rotate, as one is going to the scene to dump, another is going to fill up.
@pizzasubs
@pizzasubs 10 жыл бұрын
was just looking at that pool myself and to tell you the truth, if somebody wasn't able to afford a real full sized in-ground poll, one of those that the fire department has would work, looks big enough to swim in when completely filled with water...LOL, When they showed the section of the place where the satellite dishes were, I couldn't believe my eyes when I saw that the heat from the fire actually didn't melt them.....LOL

Tender shuttle. Pumpers, or engines are the rigs actually pumping water to the attack lines. And no, you can't lay 200 feet of hard suction hose. Water tenders quick dump into the portable tank which can hold 2000 gallons or more. The next tender comes up while the empty tender goes to refill at the water source. Either a hydrant, river,ect.

Looks like an incredibly expensive domestic dispute. Did the sprinklers only serve the kitchen? That why they weren't pumped? Looks like your guys saved most of the building, though needs massive repairs. I'd been tempted to lay in 2 1/2 into the building and wye to inch and a half. Do interior attack as much as possible. How close was the river? Able to lay in relay lines from the river to the fire? This is one such fire, where I'd have put in for lawn chairs so the guys don't have to stand around all the time. Lawn chairs, and a gas grille, to keep the guys fed. And a porta potty as needed. Overall, great job.

I hate trying to hit an involved roof from the ground with 1 3/4 or 2 1/2 attack line and watching the water either hit the roof just below or shoot over the fire without actually hitting the fire. Its just wasted effort, and wasted water. That's where aerial master streams really make a difference.

Hmmm, So how did a domestic dispute escalate into a 2 alarm fire?
@Tindometari
@Tindometari 9 жыл бұрын
TheWaynelds Good question. There's not necessarily any connection Probably the domestic was called in, the police responded, and then the fire was called in, so the call was extended to include fire and EMS response - that's just the technical usage of "escalate". Even if there was, it might not be sinister, like arson. There's a fight, people aren't looking out for what they're doing, maybe a cosy lit candle gets knocked over into just the wrong place, or an open bottle of Smirnoff Silver gets knocked over onto a lit gas stove … People who are really angry get accident-prone, and sometimes the accident involves fire.

It’s amazing to watch a simple attic fire just run unchecked. One engine company with a line and a pike pole could of ended this disaster On the exposure building. Place this building in a city/town with competency and training and this fire turns out different.
@SpartacusColo
@SpartacusColo 2 жыл бұрын
The description states that there is no hydrant system in the area. Water supply was a problem, obviously. That and, no doubt, the issues with delayed response time from what are, most likely, volunteer departments, probably helped spiral the building into a total loss. You can see one of the aerials was put out of action, most likely due to the fact of insufficient water supply. I would guess they decided, not only to fight defensively, but use more of a containment strategy to let the building burn itself out and avoid running into a serious water deficit by aggressively trying to put it out, in case things got totally out of control with respect to exposures.
@mothermarylspeaking8989
@mothermarylspeaking8989 2 жыл бұрын
@@SpartacusColo and I am learning where there is a water supply issue there can also be water pressure issues, too. Add to that the contents inside the building play a huge roll in feeding the fire.

Apparently these firefighters didn’t have a hydrant to use or maybe they did and the available water was inadequate. I see tankers shuttling water. Next what about the sprinkler system? Depending on fire conditions at arrival you very well could be wasting time and water. Now let me address the comment about ventilating the roof. You are an idiot if you ventilate a roof that already has a huge hole in it with fire ripping out of the hole. I guess you are attempting to draw the fire to the new opening. So with all that being said go ahead and second-guess because the way I see it these guys had their hands full.

PoppaBlue59 It's still in the warm zone. Not the ideal spot to be sitting around. I don't know what was in the building (I also don't know if the fire crews do or not) or if the tank was even warm. It's called precautionary actions. It's easy to answer the call for moving people away from it than explaining a possible injury or death. I was always taught to stay away from them and priror officers have taught me to keep crews away. I'm from CT.

@@heidiracloz4280 This was in the smoldering stage. At some point during a large fire like this you will have no choice but to be close to them. You stay away from them at certain times. If you are that scared of them I assume your department keeps a water stream on them during the entire event? Here’s something, if there isn’t any blistered paint on the tank that is a reliable indicator. Direct flame impingement is the hazard.

The horns sounding at the beginning was an evacuation warning. My guess is they tried an interior attack initially. Fire behavior, fuel load, collapse and water supply would be contributing factors to pulling out and going to a defensive operation. Risk a little to save a little.
