2nd bee swarm caught live!

I was lucky enough to be there when another swarm of bees moved in. What an amazing experience!

The bees were looking for a home, and you provided one. A win for you and for nature. For some reason this reminds me of the time I drove through a swarm at about 60MPH. Smell on the exhaust was not good, but nowhere as bad as a plague locust swarm that I drove through.

I caught a swarm last week. I didn't see them move in but it was apparent from looking at the entrance that something had moved in. I used the interceptor pro trap and hung it on a tree in my front yard about 7' high. About 2 weeks after putting it up they moved in. And this was a large swarm which I found out after transferring the bees.

How high up is your hive and how long was it hanging before you caught your first swarm? I built one last week just like yours and hung it up a few days ago. I should have built it over the winter. Don't know if the bees go for the "nrew hive smell" or not, we'll see.

scent it with lemon grass oil. and scorch the inside of the box first with a torch. it will increase your odds

@@normansadventures6554 Actually, I brushed on some melted bees wax and added a q-tip scented with lemongrass

@@nashvlbees It's better to scent the outside surrounding area with scent oil, like on a tree branch. Any sort of used frames in the hive is best, if you have some propolis that you can spread inside the hive even better. That scent oil inside the hive can run the bees out and not always in.

@@normansadventures6554 take propolis and alcohol mix well bush in all corners of boxes makes it like a normal beehive...best trap is a 5 frame nuc box with deep frames attached to a second deep empty box with a bottom in it with pipe hanger for easy taking top box off put on a bottom board . The entrance on bottom box is 2 3/4 holes in a layed down fig 8 pattern drive nails up in holes to keep birds out.

Trap was about 8 feet up to the entrance. Trap was new and only scented with waxed frames and a small amount of lemongrass oil.
