I don't know much at all about dairy farming. I farm Christmas tree, pumpkins, have a degree in horticulture and own a landscape business. I do know compost though. What you're doing with the bedding pack is cool. I was just wondering if maybe using a compact tractor with a tiller would be more efficient. Less fuel, less hrs on your big expensive tractors. Tilling the pack would fluff it up more, provide more oxygen for it to break down and release more heat and steam. Just a random thought I had watching your KZbin video on a late Saturday night. Now Subscribed.✌️

Hi Kevin, thanks for your comment! You are most likely right about using a smaller tractor regarding compaction and fuel efficiency. We are a really small farm and this is our "small" tractor. We use a skid steer for any compact work and it isn't very suited to doing the compost bedding. With such a small fleet of equipment, we can't always match the job to the equipment perfectly so we have to compromise. Great comment though! Anyone looking to do a similar pack could take your suggestion on board.

Great that the compost pack is working out for you! I'm sure the fans also help a lot to dry it out 👍

The Kuhn Company that makes them round balers is owned by the Swiss Company BUCHER Industries in Niederweningen Switzerland, I have been to the BUCHER factory in Switzerland and got a tour there until the early 2000s they still made farm equipment in that plant. and they got a museum of almost all of there equipment they made over the 200 years the company exists. The Rotary Hay rakes that Kuhn makes and other companies was invented by Bucher same with the conditioners on the Disc mowers however the plant in Switzerland was to small for the large numbers ordered so Kuhn and Fahr where the first two companies that got the rights to make em. great video keep em comin'

G'day from Quebec! I'm a small dairy farmer and just recently saw your videos. This one with your compost -bedded pack was exactly what I was looking for. Have you had any trouble finding the right kind of sawdust for your pack? Also, do you think if the straw was chopped fine enough, you would get the same great results as with the sawdust (low cell count and good composting of the pack)? Thanks and have a great day 😊!

We didn't get around to that but it's a good idea for next year when we start the pack again!
