Abu 7000 C3 Ambassadeur fishing reel how to restore the line guide feature and service the reel

That is a beautiful reel, even with the "cosmetic damage". They're workhorses, which is really what makes them so beautiful.

Yes they are. It's a shame the fellow didn't protect the exterior more, but internally this one wis in great condition and I am looking forward to getting a line wet with it - Dennis

Nice old 7000c3 made in Sweden. Old tank like a Penn and still parts available today.

Yes they are. You won't find this design or quality in today's reels unless you are paying dearly for it. These are half the price and twice the reel - Dennis

I had one of these once but sold it when I lost 60% of my eyesight due to a retinal disease. I used it for surf fishing. I got a chrome spool from Abu and replaced that plastic spool. I loved that reel. Mine came with two different handles. I actually made money when I sold it. This is one conventional reel I know how to work on and service as I did mine for quite a few years. By the way, Armando Reyes says that the Whittemore Trophy “666” reel I showed you was probably made by Daiwa or Olympic. I would vote for Olympic. I finished going over all my tackle from my recent coastal fishing trip this afternoon. I doubt I’ll get to use it again until next spring. Oh - You’re overusing your paper towel again. @@2ndChanceTackle you can bet I’ll have this in the surf or lake the next time I can! Buying it was a total shot in the dark but it is one fine reel. The reason I agree with Armando about it being Olympic is it reminds of a Signature Olympic reel I have. It is equally fine. A lot of folks don’t remember Olympic when they consider the fine reels of the past. I am definitely not one of those people!

Nice reel. Looks easy to take apart and maintain, good job. I no nothing about the Abu round style baitcasters. If I wanted to take one freshwater bass fishing in the ponds and lakes in south Jersey, what size or model number should I be looking for? Thanks Dennis.

Hi .I have 2 abu 7000 reels. Can you please tell me. When you are about to cast. Can you set your spool to the speed of your drop. To stop over run. many thanks Paul.

Yes - you can. There is a cast control knob behind the handle that will let you set the tension on the spool

I have a reel that was in horrible state. They never cleaned it and just left it. It was full of rust and patina (green rust) all over. I was able to clean up the gears on the right side of it (crank side) but the spool is stuck in the left side (clicker side) and I can't get it out. it turns but I am unable to pull it out. Any suggestions?

The shaft of the spool is likely frozen to the inner race of the bearing. That the non-gear side plate off and the spool should come out with it. Once it is off, flood the inner case with a penetrating oil and hot that it will free the rust. Rock the spool back and forth to try and free it out after you let the oil do its work for an hour or so - Dennis

Hey boss man when i click on the trip button to release the line to throw out and once the line hit water i turn the handle and the trips wont engage until i keep messing with it. What could keep the trip from engaging once i turn the handle? I have the 7500c reel

The usual cause is oil grease and trip inside the reel. A secondary cause is a bent to broken trip lever

Is the main body on the 7000c3 stainless I'm looking at one but i can't tell if it's rusty or grimy

No 0 the body is aluminum not stainless. It shouldn't be rusty, so I would go with grimy. Your question is timely. I will be servicing one this week and will try to do a video - Dennis

i can't find the Serial Number on my 7000 C3. I'm pretty sure mine is Chinesium. it's not on the foot, like everyone says it is... pls help

there are some numbers on a washer under the Cast Control Cap (knob)--on the side opposite the handle. the washer might be called an Alarm Arm on the BOM, except mine is on the outside of the Side Plate. (the drawing indicates it's on the inside of the Side Plate). go figure. get it together, guys! maybe i should offer the Chinese to revise their BOM drawing. however, because no posts mention them, I'm wary of using them on my warranty. im not sure my reel goes together as depicted on the BOM drawing given in the box.

If the reel does not say made in Sweden, it is made in China
