hey denis id just like to say you have inspired me to get my mitchel 310 up and going even though i thought it was kinda bad i had the rotor bearing hold down set screw break but had a spare in a larger parts reel i just had thought it was too slopy for my likeing to fish well i was wrong i put it on my vintage transa glass st croix rod was fishing with 6lb test had rapala original floaters that i was trieing after not likeing fishing them for so long they always seemed too shallow i had never had topwater hits in my area personally. tried the setup this morning and caught 3 smallmouth bass it was a great time was useing all kinds of lengths and colors of original floater and caught stuff btw i like old gear but i ain't old yet im 21 and regularly fish and repair/service my vintage fishing gear anyway denis love the content just goes to show you dont need brand new stuff to catch fish just give the old gear some tlc and have fun

Thanks't the whole idea behind 2nd Chance Tackle - Thanks you for giving yours another run. Just because it is old, doesn't mean it isn't good! Dennis

Dennis have you ever worked on the seaway marvel spinning reel. Which is a Japanese Mitchel clone. Nice job on the reel!

I have not. I did work on a Japanese International clone that was so much the same that the parts were interchangeable. I will look into the Seaway and learn more - Thanks

I have the French model and have never had any issues other than the bail flip spring (but the same holds true for my 300's). My reel is also mated with an Ugly Stick, model SPL 1101.

I greatly dislike any Mitchell reel not made in France. I know what that tick is. The Taiwanese version of the Mitchell reels are vastly inferior to the French ones in my opinion. I don’t think the design or materials used are just not as good. I thought the French 306 did use the planamatic crosswind system. Some of the French Mitchells also used that plastic tightener on the handle just like this one. I’ve found them to be fairly durable unless something crazy happens or they are abused or over-tightened. The 406 had those open bearings just like this one. I learned that the hard way. Also the Mitchell 906 uses the same open bearing as a 406. I don’t own a 308 as I rarely use freshwater reels and don’t collect them unless I decide I want to collect an entire series of a particular reel from smallest to largest. I’ve done this many times when I like a reel a lot. These clicks like this one can be so frustrating depending on the reel. The older reels I work with can be very difficult to diagnose and repair. This reel is in pretty nice cosmetic condition. Too bad it’s not from France. Great job Dennis! - Chris. PS. I got another Mitchell 4470 reel almost mint in its original box with papers a few days ago. It is my grandson’s favorite surf fishing reel so I’ll be giving him one as I have three. This is the only Mitchell I know off where there is a switch to cut off the clicker while leaving the anti-reverse still functioning. This 4470 is the largest in this series. I have a couple 4450 models SS well. I’ll send you some photos.

Some of the Taiwanese Mitchel 308 reels used the planetary system before they switched designs with the 308A - I think the machinery and parts may have been shipped and that they did not change design until they ran out of the inventory. Maybe - Best wishes Chris

@@2ndChanceTackleI think I may have to get one of these (the French model). The Mitchell part of my collection should have a 308. Next to the original 300 the 308 may be the most popular Mitchell there is. - Chris
