This beat with the Isley brothers sample is one of the greatest I’ve ever heard. A lot of emcees killed this beat, but no one better than Pac… Pac will always be my favorite emcee. I have so many fond memories, driving around aimlessly in my very first car, a red 97 mustang.. just a young teenaged man tryna find my way. The cd that spent the most time in rotation was Tupac’s Me Against The World album. I’m pretty sure I lost my virginity with that cd in the deck 😆 I don’t exactly recall, but the first time I ever got laid was in that car, and if my memory serves me right, I think I had the song “Temptations” by Pac playing. All I know is, I spent many days and nights driving around, either solo or with my boys or with some chicks, and Pac never let me down 😆 always made those moments that much more special. Good times, bad times, it didn’t matter. Even the many times I got locked up, I would recite Pac songs to myself to stay sane and keep my mind busy. It was my only form of entertainment.. cuz I need music or I lose my mind.. but yeah, I just have so much gratitude for Tupac’s music. I have a very wide ranging appreciation for all kinds of music, but mainly 90s to early 2000s hip hop and r&b, as well as 90s and early 2000s rock, nu metal, screamo, emo, shoegaze, etc… but out of all of the musicians I love, Tupac is among the artists who have had the most impact on me emotionally. Also, I just saw that they’re FINALLY making some headway in his murder investigation. It’s about time! I really hope he finally gets the justice he’s owed!

Fun Fact, this is not the original. This was actually recorded after the Thug Life Version as 2Pac was still considering the song for his original solo album concept "R U Still Down" & "Stay True". You can tell this was recorded after the Thug Life version because the ending of the 4th verse on The Thug Life take had a adlib of Pac saying "real niggas turn to bustas bury me a g". You can hear this part under the ending of the 4th verse on this take. If this was recorded first, that would not have been recorded yet. You can hear it at 3:54

I miss this era of rap music. There's great artists in the game today but, the whole vibe of rap music was raw and REAL during pacs time. More rappers were telling stories of pain and struggle and less about how many cars they have now. Don't get me wrong, there was some rap focused on that. But, the focus was different for the most part, even if it was violent for real.
