Breaking the Habit is another that is so different since Chester's passing. I always assumed that, by singing about his problems and mental health, he was somehow handling it. Unfortunately the people who seem to be keeping it together are just the ones putting on their best game faces and I've found that out personally. I'm now taking the time to talk to my customers at work properly and to do what I can for them as, although we are an energy company, any burdens I can help lighten, that'll hopefully give my customers chance to seek help.

You do know that a lot of the lyrics are from Mike Shinoda. The rest of the band. The bands lyrics were not only Chester's. It's easy to think a lot of the songs were a cry for help, but I don't think they were. It's not like Chester wrote every lyric of every song. All the band members and especially Mike Shinoda were involved on the writing of the lyrics. Mike Shinoda was probably the biggest influence on the lyrics. I respectfully disagree with you on this.

@@heavyliestheground8908 -- His past informed lyrical aspects of quite a few of their songs. But Chester wasn't inputting every bit of himself lyrically into their songs, if he did, it would be draining for him to sing every song. We can guarantee that Chester had prominent pieces of himself; in Hybrid Theory, Meteora, and in bits of One More Light. He was a member of Linkin Park, he was part of the process. The only reason we feel so much from him is because his was the most potent. Every member had their own valid pasts to input into the creative process, Chester's just so happened to be the most potent and heaviest, and we are privileged that he allowed the guys to work with it with the rest of theirs, to put it into song form for us.

The last picture ever taken of Chester before we sadly lost him was at a family cookout or gathering I believe, but he was smiling. That just goes to show that you should always check up on people even if they seem like they are doing okay. Most people going through a struggle become very good at hiding it through a smile. I have learned very well how to do so myself, though I am getting better about talking to people. Just check up on each other every so often. It really does mean the world when you do.

There are many LP songs that have been like therapy to me, especially in the early days. Numb is just one of them. Needless to say, the help their music provided caused me to feel a close connection to them. They wrote songs from experiencing life's trials. They had so much anger for the first few years, that almost every song reflected that. And by hearing, not just having the music playing, but really hearing each song, relating to them, actually helped me to heal from hurting myself, and being hurt by others. They opened my eyes to the commonality of hurting people just like I did, and that inspired me to use the anger held in check for too long in positive ways. And that's when my healing began. I'd play PL CD's in my car so loud, I could scream my lungs out and not hear my own noise. Doing that turned me from an animal to a real family man.

Hello Graham. The power of music is overwhelming. It transcends all languages, races, genders and ages. While the music world mourns the death of an extremely talented man, they also need to embrace the beautiful legacy he left behind like you apparently have. When this song came out I was still in school. I related to it so much not because I had been bullied but I was constantly ridiculed by my extended family. To them I was not skinny enough, not straight enough, not good enough period. Which is why in a previous video I asked if you guys would be my grandmas. I started to really relate to this song when I was self harming, because it was just a theme to how I felt. especially with the fact that my family was so judgemental and still is of who I was and who I am. I go to college now, and sometimes my grandma will ask me 'what are you going to do with that degree' I have been writing since middle school as an escape of my own reality and my own trouble. I am going to college to perfect my art and pulling good grades is a hard thing for me considering I was an IEP student. I haven't listened to Linkin Park in some time, mostly due to not having the gull to listen to Chester sing when he isn't here anymore. Its so incredibly sad but this video did resignate with people and me.

Chester Benningtons Life: Chester was the son of a policeman and a nurse and spent his early twenties in Arizona . His parents divorced in 1987, leaving him along with a brother and two sisters. After choosing to be with his father, he was encouraged by his older brother to listen to some bands. At the age of two he learned from his brother to sing a song, Hot Blooded by Foreigner. Forced by his family situation to move to various cities in Arizona, Bennington began smoking marijuana at the age of 11. He did not have an easy childhood: from age 7 to 13 he was sexually harassed by a teenage boy (who later did not report because he found out he was himself a victim) and suffered from addiction to hard drugs such as LSD , opium and heroin .He also had to jump from high school to high school, until in 1995 he graduated from Washington High School. In his late teens, he began working as a bartender in the Bean Tree coffee shop. He joined Grey Daze and then another band called Xero. Xero together with Jeff Blue began the search for a singer, Blue contacted Bennington himself, who auditioned on the phone three days after the call. Bennington was later convinced to move to Los Angeles , where he would be permanently chosen by the Xeros after a few auditions. In 1999 Xero changed their name to Hybrid Theory and released the eponymous EP in the same year. It was thanks to this record and some concerts that they managed to sign a contract with Warner Bross Records towards the end of the year. After changing their name to Linkin Park, on October 24, 2000 they released their debut album Hybrid Theory, which relied mostly on the singles One Step Closer , Crawling and In The End . Hybrid Theory became the most successful record of the nu metal genre , with more than 27 million copies sold worldwide. With the group he released six additional studio albums, the latest of which, One More Light , was released in May 2017.

I think once my cousin was being dramatic and he said the line ‘I want to be less like you and be more like me’ and at the time I was like ok? Then thinking back on it now, he seemed like an outsider amongst his sister and mother, so maybe he told me that wishing he could tell them. This song, and this band, changed my life at the beginning of high school. I was dealing with lots of bullying at school and emotional abuse at home. This band really helped me process my situation and adapt in ways that allowed me to get through my late teen years. Chester might have lost his battle against depression in the end, but he helped so many people, like me, along the way. His legacy lives on with us.

Damn, so many memories connected to this song and band... grew up with them, countless times they helped me through the bad times. And this was the first and only time when I actually cried over celebrity dying cause they are basically like a family to me. I was out late, after helping couple of friends with some construction work, bought myself some tacos, was eating and reading the news and then I saw the article on BBC. You can imagine how weird it looks when a 23 year old, 250+ pounds, 6.4 dude bawling his eyes out in a restaurant at midnight. But I didn’t care cause I was really upset about it. They influenced me and so many many more people like me who struggled in school. Personally I wish they would reunite but I do understand that not many people will accept someone else instead of Chester...

When I took a good look at the symptoms of them it answered a lot of questions about my life and why I was always different from those around me. For me they are the best band of all time due to the way they can change and adapt to almost any kind of music but having said that, thats down to personal preference. But i have no doubt many people can argue with what you said about them being the best rock band of the moden era. They kept the music simple but good. They kept the lyrics simple but also very relatable and very open for interpretation. As group of people, they seem really nice with the way they gave back to the fans and connected. Also everything they do for charity. Most importantly they seem like big kids at heart.

The LP catalog is so rich with Chester exorcising his demons and created such an emotional connection with a generation struggling with their own. I discovered LP through my children (I’m 60) and found his pain so very relatable. I think every generation struggles under the weight of expectations, peer to peer and parent to child, many survive the struggle but carry the scars, sometimes for the rest of our days. Coming to love Chester, his suicide struck me as hard as it did my boys. This song in particular, brings me to tears, believing we lost another to the struggle. Rest in each, at last.

When I was younger and my older brother was listen to Linkin Park, I just thought "yeah, I can see why they have fans. This song is quite good". But as I've grown older, and been diagnosed with depression, social anxiety and anxiety in general, and I've actually listened to the words of this song in particular, I resonate so much with them. Especially when I look back at school, where I was always treated like crap because I was different (and probably was suffering depression and anxiety then as well), and the lyrics break my heart. And they continue to break my heart everytime my mental health takes a dive.
