Great job on this repair, especially checking for other failed solder joints and not forcing anything. It's crazy how much places want for a rebuilt TIPM, when all it needs is a $10 relay.

I am so glad I found this video and so grateful to you for making it. I think you saved me about $1,200.00. I followed along and it went very well. I did have trouble removing the module from the circuit board. It's difficult to remove because I'd heat one connection, loosening it, and when I moved on to the next, the solder would re-solidify. So I took the board to an electronics shop and let a pro change out the module. It only cost $55 and I didn't burn up the board trying it myself. THANK YOU!

Check out Desoldering Wick Braid. It's basically braided copper that you lay over the solder and apply heat. It transfers the solder from the board to the wick. A little *Electrical* Soldering Flux (Not Plumbing Flux) will help removing, as well as flowing better when soldering the component back to the board. Can't believe they make these relays inaccessible like this...Ridiculous. Great video - Thanks

Very well done. Clean job and precise instructions. I can see on my older raggedy Ram that I just bought, that my relay has been bypassed. On a newer truck, I'd probably go this route. But since it's a design flaw, I might just install a heavier relay and wiring and bypass the OE fuse panel/relay box. Repairing with the OE design will just allow another future failure. Why the F would dodge install one of the most important relays inside the fuse box and make it a micro. I'm thinking way too undersized for a circuit to be on/feeding a non stop item like a fuel pump. Probably overheats the relay and melts the solder off causing faulty connection. Thanks for showing what's in the box and how to fix it. I'm thinking of taking it apart and tracing inside terminals to outside wires and installing an external normal size relay that can handle constant use/load. Nice video, thanks!

Very nice thank you for this video I am quite confidant now to tackle this repair. Question because the fuel pump is constantly running when jumped does it use up more gas?
@kenlorentzen Жыл бұрын
If this is like most fuel injection systems, the fuel pumps in a closed loop back to the tank, through the fuel pressure regulator, which provides back pressure to feed the injectors. So no, it doesn't use more fuel. With the jumper off an accessory connection the pump will run if you have the accessory mode on, no engine running, which will drain the battery.

Have you considered making an adapter that you can solder onto that board and then quick-swap a regular relay? I bet it would get popular. TIPMs are a bad idea. Eventually, Chrysler will stop making them. When that happens, a 25 or 30-year-old vehicle that has one will not be able to get a new one. The owner will have to get a used one if it is available and there is no guarantee he will be able to get a used one. The TIPM is too complicated for an aftermarket manufacturer to make from scratch. I see Dorman sells remanufactured version of the TIPM, but they are not made from scratch. Looks like planned obsolescence to me.

you un soldered a five pin and the board is five pin and the link to the relay on Amazon is a four pin

The link is to a five pin 2 pack. If you are simply looking at the picture in Amazon, it looks like only 4 pins. However, read the description and it is 5 pins.

In the Amazon photo, look VERY closely at the leftmost "pin". You'll just barely be able to see it's 2 pins lined up, where one is along the far edge of the relay and the other is on the left edge of the relay. From that angle, they blend into each other in the photo. The photo would be better if the relay had been rotated just a little bit.

I believe it is a 5 pin.

I tackled this project about a month ago. Had the part forever but was scared to try it. Worked like a charm. Mine had a bypass that was melting the plastic off the fuse without blowing any. Thanks for the video!
